Works for cats
For dogs AND cats. I bought this because my cat was shaking her head a lot, she's always had issues with excess earwax but I was concerned when her ears were going into airplane mode a lot. I used the larger of the two pieces and was able to easily look inside of her ear and see that there was just a ton of oil and wax, nothing suspicious. I could probably use the thinner one to look farther down into her ear, but I was able to clean her ears gently with wipes and cutips then use this to see that a good job was done.

Maybe it's just me
but I can't see anything when I try to look in my dog's ears. Albeit she doesn't hold still, it may be error on my part.

Inexpensive and effective
My dog lost his hearing, and I needed to be sure it wasn't an infection. My otoscope for humans didn't help, as the anatomy of a dog's ear requires a longer piece to get near the eardrum. This inexpensive canine otoscope was perfect.

Not usable due to too-small specula
Unfortunately, both of the included specula were too large to fit into my 11-lb. Maltese's ear, so I never could see as far as the vet can see with his otoscope, which is why I wanted one in the first place -- to be able to check the eardrum to see if it was intact or had any holes in it. His ears are healthy now, but he does have ongoing come-and-go inflammation (which means irritation in the ears), and a number of years ago he developed an ear infection bad enough in both ears to cause holes in the eardrum. You are never supposed to apply any products to a dog's ear in which there are holes in the eardrum as it can cause permanent hearing loss, so I wanted something to be able to see the eardrums, in case he were to ever get perforations in the eardrums again. Also, I just wanted to be able to see his entire ear canals! So I returned the unit.

Easy to Use - Clear View
Some reviews I read before buying indicated that the view in the ear canal was difficult to see. I do not find that to be the case.I have used this several times and can see clearly down my guy's entire ear canal without having to get the end too far into his ear. I do need to wear my distance glasses when using to see though; I thought I wouldn't because it's a close distance but without them, the view is blurry.Really like the strength of the light, the lightness of total weight and the balance of the unit as a whole (not top heavy on one end). I take hold of the actual light part (i.e., don't hold by handle) and can access my guy's ears easily. Also appreciate the extra cone piece. It can be a challenge to snap it into place, but then again, once on it stays in place until it is snapped back off.Excellent value.
