Knit Picks Hawthorne Hand Painted Sock Yarn (Arleta)

As this yarn was used to knit my first pair of socks, it had to undergo much frogging/unknitting. I found the yarn to hold up well to the additional handling and the finished product did not show any separating of the strands. The colors are gorgeous, and the elasticity is very good. I would recommend this product.

I just want to point out that no two dye lots are the same. The one I got didn't have but a sliver of red tones. It's all purple and a pop of teal. It's still beautiful. But some need to be reminded that hand dying creates variance.The yarn itself is nice, not splitty. While not baby soft, it's softer than some wool socks yarns I've used in the past.

First, I gave it 4 stars because it's a lovely, soft yarn to work with but there are a few things that are a bit of a problem. I bought this color, Macadam, and the color Skyline thinking that they would contrast but as you can see in the picture they are practically the same. Macadam has some black in it but the green tones match Skyline. In the Amazon picture Skyline looks much lighter and Macadam looks much darker. When it arrived it smelled heavily of dye and after knitting 1/2 the skein of Skyline and the whole skein of Macadam (I bought 2 skeins) my bamboo knitting needles are stained green. I haven't wet blocked it yet so I can't confirm that it will run but I think it's pretty likely. Again, I didn't return it because it is very nice yarn I just thought the above is good info to know.

I purchased a multitude of sock yarn and this is best by far. Mostly because it always looks the same. This is the only yarn I use these days because it never produces hair balls and looks like I just made them. The pair in the picture I made 3 months ago and they still look good. I've been buying this yarn and storing it away because it seems all yarn manufacturers discontinue their yarn. And I want to make sure I can continue to make socks. Unfortunately one skein only makes one pair of socks, but if you make a contracting heel or cuff, you'll have plenty for two pairs of socks. This is very soft and always looks good.

I was disappointed in the color, which does not have as much variation as pictured. It is a darker green throughout. Tonal, but not much range, and a little muddy. Posting a review because of the price.

After knitting for a few years now, self-taught thanks to YouTube, I decided it was time to splurge on squishy, quality yarn and try SOCKS. Just seems like a big deal, right? This yarn is amazing. It doesn't split, zero knots and just is so comfy. I had to redo the toe a million times to learn Judy's Magic Cast on and found my only hiccup was my own doing. M1 with dark fingering weight yarn needs good eyesight and some light. But even with my many redos, the yarn held itself together and you wouldn't know. I'm looking forward to pouring through the other colors and ordering my next hank! I'm much further along than the picture but wanted you to see the way the colors unfold.

It's so soft! I'm used to wools being a lot scratchier, but this one's really nice to knit with. The colors are gorgeous. It's very neatly packaged and easy to roll into a ball. It looks like there are a bunch of knots when you first open it, but they're just extra bits of yarn tied around the skein to keep it from getting tangled up. I've already gone and ordered more colors.
