I am ready to buy this yet am reluctant. I don't know if it is text-to-speech enabled. The other Freire kindle books are labeled,but not this one.

Friere offers a terrific antidote to the poisonous discourse about education eminating from the clueless anti-intellectual right.He is the preeminent scholar on education as liberator of the oppressed and this book bears that out powerfully.

I bought this book for a graduate class. As always, Amazon has one of the best prices around. It's a great read for educators.

Ever since this book was adopted as part of our educator's curriculum in 1985. We've seen such stellar and amazing results in terms of kids' education. A constant and steady decline in literacy. We're now at the point where 63% of high school graduates are below proficient in reading. that means 2/3 of the kids are functionally illiterate. Not to mention based on a lot of evidence the reading proficiency of certain underprivileged demographics has stalled at half the rate of others. What happened to no child left behind. Paulo's lowest common denominator Marxist indoctrination was supposed to help bring up those marginalized people. But it only taught them Marxist critical thought and not any educational attainment like reading and math. If you're forced to read this. take it as a preview of how you'll be forced to think from then on. Just don't give them any money. Satan doesn't need your help.

Everyone should read it to understand why, since 1985, our education system in the West is a dumpster fire. Since its implementation literacy plummeted as did arithmetic. (The U.S was ranked in the top tier global education prior to '85.) Heres just a fraction: Freires belief that teaching children reading and writing is a mechanism structured to support and keep those in positions of power. An example: You should teach them high level politics first and the reading and writing will just follow. Its complete Marxian nonsense.

We spen huge chunks of our lives in school. What did we learn about learning? Be prepared to open our minds to what we should have learned in school. Make sure our children learn to understand and question the Politics of Education.
