I wish all coooking pots were made of this material.
I don't know exactly what the pot itself is made of. It looks rather like a cross between a cast iron skillet and the inside of a big oven. What I DO know is that is cleans up more easily than any cooking vessel I have ever owned. Over Christmas, I actually burned marshmallow creme in the thing, making fudge (not recommended; the low heat makes the fudge grainy), and all I had to do was soak it in hot water (the pot, not the fudge) for about fifteen minutes, and it literally rinsed clean.I am great at burning things, and you have to actively try to burn things in this roaster, but I have managed, and I am happy to report that it cleans up with a sponge and soapy water. You might have to soak it for a few minutes, but neither scrubbing nor scouring is involved.I have stewed, simmered, grilled, baked, and roasted in this thing, and it does it all, and cleanup is perfect for me, as I am the world's laziest housekeeper. The only thing I've found it can't do very well is deep-fry. It just doesn't get hot enough. But that's okay. Didn't I read that cooking foods at high temperatures isn't good for us anyway? Still, if you're aching for fish 'n chips, this it not the pot for you to use.As far as capacity, you can work with a smallish whole chicken, a turkey breast, or a rack of ribs if you cut it in two. The oven rack will hold two large or three medium hamburgers or six hot dogs. I have combined things like chicken breasts (on the rack) and baking potatoes or sweet potatoes (on the bottom), and that works well. You might have to do some trial and error, but it really does reasonably well with cooking more than one thing at a time and you don't want stew.Flavor-wise, I find the meats I cook and the veggies I steam or grill seem to have more flavor than what my ceramic crock pot yields, and there is none of that watery, overcooked flavor OR texture. Oh, and if you like baked apples, make them in this roaster. Best I ever made. And as for baked potatoes or winter squash? You won't believe how much better, especially with an appliance that doesn't suck up electricity the way a big oven does.I am a good cook, but I am not one to spend a lot of time doing it. I am a gadget lover, and I use small appliances much more often than my traditional stove, using pots pans. This roaster will work well, whether it be for a gourmet cook who lives in the kitchen, or for a single person who just wants quick, fairly healthy meals with nothing much to clean up.If this product stopped working tomorrow, I would simply buy another one. That's how much I like it.I have not tried prepared foods (like frozen vegetable mixes) yet, because I mostly cook everything from scratch. Can't help you there.

No glass lid
The roaster oven was delivered today, and my wife is disappointed because the listing said that it came with a glass lid and it did not!! That's the reason for only three stars.

Broken handle
When it arrived, the box looked ok, it wasn't damaged or anything, but when I opened the box and took the roaster out of the box, which was packed very good, one of the roasters handles was cracked off of it, it has had sharp edges protruding from it. So I repacked it right back up, printed a returned label off the Amazon website and left the box on my porch for UPS to pick up and take back. From what I seen of it, it was something I really wanted, But I'm worried about ordering another one. I'm seeing the Kmart in our area has this item on their website for about $5 more then Amazon, I'm gonna go to this Kmart before I attempt to reorder from Amazon again.

Broken plastic handles ;-(
I never got to try to roaster... I ordered two of them and both arrived with a broken plastic handle. I returned both of them and bought a different roaster at a department store.

Smaller than expected!
This oven is kind of small for the porpouse that I boughted it! But is not bad at all...Really good for small ammount of food when you do not want to use the oven from the range, Only takes a little space of your counter...I would recomended to my friends!!

Excellent for keeping food warm
I considered buying a huge roaster oven, suitable for cooking a turkey, so that I could use my regular oven for other items when I'm making a big holiday dinner. But other reviewers pointed out that because of its size, the largest roaster is difficult to clean and bulky to store. Also, I'd still have to transfer the turkey to the oven for browning. So instead, I bought this small roaster oven, which I use to keep the turkey meat warm while the rest of dinner is being prepared. I line the roaster with foil, set it to a low temperature, pour in a little broth, and add the carved-up meat. It stays juicy and warm until dinner's on the table. The relatively small size of this roaster means it's easy to store and the non-stick liner pan is very easy to clean. I haven't used it for other purposes so far, but it should be perfect for small casseroles or baked potatoes. I haven't checked the temperature accuracy yet.

Product not what it used to be
We've had several of these over the years, but they've taken a step down in the latest model. Worst issue is the plug is no longer removable which makes it difficult to store. They have also made the rack smaller than it used to be.
