Simple solution to a needlessly complicated problem. Magic, I swear.

-Intention: Run a sax through cheapo Chinese guitar effect pedals using an sm57, and a di box to a PA. -Problem: Impedance between the mic signal and the requirement of the pedals. The signal was just super weak.I tried a monoprice converter cable that said it was supposed to match impedance, but I guess it didn't have an actual transformer in it. The quarter inch side was also TRS, while line-level cables are just TR. I played a gig with a weak, tinny sound and tons of feedback, but I guess it came across as kinda cool, since the sound guy was on my gain knob the whole show. Props to that guy, by the way. The moment this transformer arrived, I tried it out on my band's PA, and it worked SO perfectly! I swear it's witchcraft, based on the sheer number of sax forum posts offering no useful solution beyond a $300 mini-mixer and an effects loop with a vocal preamp and blah blah blah. My only complaint is that it hangs off the side of the pedal. I just made a cardboard cushion to support it so it won't snap or anything, but it seems strong enough. -Successful/final signal chain: SM57 -> XLR cable -> Impedance Transformer -> Several random JOYO effects in a chain -> Cheapo DI box -> XLR to PA system

A simple solution for my SM58

I bought a Shure SM58, and like many people with small interfaces I couldn't get any volume out of it. The CP8201 was a simple and effective solution.

Run Vocals Through Guitar Pedals

Want to run a microphone through a guitar pedal from a dynamic mic? This is what you need. High quality and noiseless including plenty of signal volume. And 10 bucks? Yup.

Excellent

I really like this product, I've purchased other products like this at which never worked.

They need quality control.

I received the item in a timely manner however, it did not work. I tried three different microphones no success. Was going to return the item. Decided to take it apart and try to determine why it was not working. Discovered two wires not soldered to the terminal they were supposed to be. I soldered them back and all is fine. Had they tested the item before shipping (it was listed as used) they would have discovered it did not work

3 stars so far

Only owned for about a couple weeks, but so far it is working like it should and without unwanted noise. The male quarter-inch part seems loosely connected to the rest of the device and this concerns me. I am only using it for home studio work and I am very careful(most of the time) with my equipment anyways, so when I plug or unplug this device it will be done with care, and extra care because of the looseness of the quarter-inch part. I have only owned one impedance transformer before this one(can't remember if it was the same brand or not) and the first thing to go wrong with it was that the male quarter-inch part separated from the rest of the device, however, the wires did not become disconnected so I used some duct tape to secure it and it worked fine as long as i was careful about handling it. The only reason I bought this one is because I lost my other one, but, I don't have a lot of money, nor do i care that having duct tape on my gear might make me look cheap, I just need it to work. So, having only had two of these devices over the last 15 years or so, but not sure if they were both Audio-Technica brand, I can't make any definite statements about whether I would recommend Audio-Technica impedance matching transformers because i may have just been unlucky this time and gotten a "less than adequately, but not terribly" constructed device which I could probably exchange, that is if i wanted to deal with the shipping and all that, but I don't. Time will tell as to the stability of this particular device I have purchased.

Happy with my purchase

Sounds great. Turns a guitar amp into a usable PA for vocals. Only concern is that the 1/4" plug section doesn't thread in tightly to the body. A bit of gaff tape fixed it and I'm confident it will be reliable now.
