Great compass for my SAR work
I have owned a few compasses and hands down this one is the best. They even replaced it when a bubble appeared. My only suggestion is that the lanyard was connected better.

Basic, But Good: I recommend
Kids today only know GPS. What to do when your phone or GPS device batteries fail? Using a compass and orienteering is a lost art. I am teaching my 8yr old grandson to use a compass, and guess what: he thinks it's cool! No batteries! That's the point. Whether this product or another, teach your youngsters to be independent of electronics.

Excellent needle balance, swing and stability, accurate and a great price.
I’m a daily compass user and have been looking for a simple, basic and accurate compass. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I’ve got a drawer full of useless liquid filled compasses with big bubbles so I decided to downgrade to a non-liquid-filled compass. The Silva Ranger Global was my choice. The needle swings freely and settles down quickly. It’s rugged, light and fits nicely is my pocket. Lastly and most importantly, it points north. I trust this compass.

Poor glow in the dark functionality
If you're ooking for a luminous glow in the dark compass for way finding at night this may not be it. Three reference points on the compass housing are well illuminated, but, and this is a big but, the luminosity of the needle marking is so minimal that it can hardly be seen in the dark. Hope your eyes are well acclimated to darkness without a full moon or bright star light. The needle luminosity is far less than 50% of any of the baseplate reference points and is perhaps as low as 25%. The best way to see a bearing is to look for the glow of the two luminous reference marks on the bezel to be blocked as the needle passes over them. Sad but true.
