Clean & clear sound at an affordable price

These are a perfect match with the JBL LSR310 sub. I use them for my bedroom TV sound with the sub's 80hz filter. Kills any soundbar at any price. I found that if I set the speaker volume & sub volume at 50%, the useful range of the preamp volume makes more sense. With the speakers all the way up, the preamp volume range is too short.Image & soundstage are quite good. If you work on placement to find the best spot, & play around with toe in, then these speakers can almost disappear & give a dead center Image in the sweet spot, but it's a generous sweet spot. Their small physical stature helps with that I suppose. You need a preamp with balanced output to use these, or use an unbalanced to balanced line level converter. They do not have RCA input.

82 Watts? Does JBL think I'm stupid?

I purchased a pair of these a few years ago. They sound very good and are of decent volume. I was and am still pleased with them, but I wanted louder. Pleased with the 305P MKIIs, I purchased a pair of 308P MKIIs. These 305Ps sound really good, but the 308P MKIIs sound even better! But, they are not any louder!I started reading wattage ratings. The 305Ps claim 82 Watts while the 308Ps claim 112 Watts of power. I understand that it takes more power to move an 8 inch speaker. I also understand that to sound louder requires a doubling of power.I am very wattage aware because I live in an RV and run off of batteries and solar 24/7. I have measured the power consumption of everything I own and labeled it according. Each of my 305P speakers have a label that reads "8 Watts". If I run one at max, then pull the plug, my watt member drops 8 Watts. That's how much power one of these speakers draw. I never questioned it because it seemed correct to me. They are an obvious sound level lower than my first 35 Watt Fischer amp could produce. They are also can't carry a candle against my 200 Watt Pioneer amplifier which has no problem rocking a brick and mortar structure with a pair 15 inch Yamaha speakers.Generally sneaking, the larger the speaker, the more power it can handle, so I assumed the 308Ps would be louder. No. They sound better, but they are not louder and they don't consume 112 Watts of power. My test proved the 308Ps consumed 9 Watts of power each.I sent them back and am leaving this review hoping the distributor will ask JBL one simple question: You claim the amplifier produces 82 Watts of power! The label on the back of the speaker claims 127 Watt Max! Does JBL think I'm stupid? How can anyone make any claims like this? I have never witnessed one of these speakers pulling 10 watts of power EVER. They are 8 watt speakers. That's the truth. Period.
