THIS IS THE BEST DOWNRIGGER CLIP
I have yet to find a downrigger clip for trolling for walleye that I like better than these Scotty clips. We get very few accidental releases, and we drag very few small fish that don't pull the line out of the release. That's why I keep a whole box of them handy.

Just what I was looking for. I like this size better than the smaller one. This clip keeps my line secure without popping off.

no operator problems here
The negative reviews reflect problems with the operators...not the product. There are 2 ways to adjust release tension: pull the clip at the rear to the rear, and/or adjust how deeply into the clasp you place the line. With 20 pound line, if I place my line inline with the black tab, it is too much tension for a shaker to pop the line but you know a fish is there. As for being too difficult to squeeze open, this is not an issue for me. These are large; about a 4x2x1.5 inch box. I think these are easy to use with cold fingers since you can squeeze them open with your whole fist, not just between forefinger and thumb.I have run flashers behind these no problem. The stackers with the spring clips are great as well. There is no line damage like the old twist and hook releases, no rubber bands to run out of, and they don't unscrew and fall apart like cannon releases do. These are quick and easy to hook a line to and east to stack.
