BlackBerryBold 9790 SIM-free Smartphone - Black (discontinued by manufacturer)

I bought 2 of these handsets recently and it's one of the best purchases i have made from amazon, the handsets where both listed as in "very good condition" but in reality in my case at least they where as new, no marks whatsoever, screen protectors on, accessories intact, just been sitting in a warehouse last few years.I had a blackberry Q10 and Q5 before but had issues with some basic features on those handsets including not being able to lock screen, phone making calls by itself,software issues and just too big really for my liking, so along comes 2 shiny 9790's which i got for about £35 each after applying some amazon credit i received from trading in a few games.Without applying credit the phones where listed at £48, bargain! Yes i know it is 7.1 OS but that is all i need, the lack of apps is not an issue for me,the few apps i wanted are there free on the blackberry store, whatsapp, viber,etc.There is also a very nice free HD theme which in my opinion makes everything so much clearer and easier to navigate.The 9790 feels great in the hand,just the right size, very pocket friendly.Nice to have a phone with a dedicated camera button, the quality of the photos is very good, i use it for listing items on ebay and i am very happy with the camera which has auto focus unlike its big brother the Bold 9990.The blackberry desktop software works very well and easy to backup files including photos to my PC.I have not used the video function so cannot comment on that.The signal reception on this handset is very good, no issues at all and the first major thing i noticed and others noticed about this handset is the call quality, perfect, before on my old Acer handset i had issues with poor call clarity, no such problems here, really excellent call quality so well done blackberry.And of course the qwerty keyboard for which blackberry are famous does not disappoint either, very smooth action and combined with the touchscreen is a pleasure to navigate and send messages / emails.I have found the wifi range to be very good ( 2.4 ghz) and this handset benefits from 5ghz dual band wifi which i use myself and is faster for them times downloading / reinstalling apps / updates but the range of 5 ghz is not great, but that is not blackberrys fault ,just a feature of using 5ghz which you must accept until the next standard of wireless comes along, have not used the NFC feature but nice to know it is on the 9790 too along with a mobile hotspot feature which i have used (0s 7.1) along with streaming my music on my blackberry to my Sony sound bar via bluetooth which was a nice bonus.You can also adjust the font sizes so text /email messages,phone numbers etc are a lot easier to read, especially if you are well over 21 as in my case :) The trackpad is very responsive and the 8gb of storage built in along with the micro sd slot are very welcome features.One of the great things about buying a quality handset like the blackberry 9790 now, a few years down the road from release is the fact that the software has been fully optimised and bugs ironed out. I downloaded all the updates as soon as i got the handsets and everything is very stable and reliable, no issues or sudden reboots ever and in the case of the 9790,the benefit of even greater battery life and as a bonus the official blackberry accessories are now at a bargain price, i picked up official 9790 cases for £1 and the official 9790 dock for £3 , both prices included postage! And i urge you to get them if you decide to go for the 9790 before they eventually dry up, so i am using the 9790 every day and i normally get about 2 / 2.5 days use out of it with moderate use, i do not browse the internet on this handset or any handset for that matter as i prefer doing that on my laptop / pc.I leave wifi on most of the time and bluetooth on half of the time, have push email enabled every 10 mins so i think this is excellent considering this is a smartphone with some very nice features,a big thing that helps me with battery life is the feature to use 2G network only as where i live i have no 3G signal.The official dock is very nice as you can set it up to turn wifi / bluetooth off as soon as phone is docked and the clock face can be displayed with any alarms.On that point you can use alarms for calendar reminders as well and i do find the calendar / organiser on this handset first class.Text messaging and emailing is fast with lots of short cuts and options and the phone display while a long way off FULL HD is perfectly acceptable on this handset and helps battery life leaps and bounds.The Blackberry protect app is already installed and is a great app for peace of mind and you get headset, USB cable/charger, manual in the box.The default music player is very good,most impressed and with a nice shuffle feature for your songs.It is great to find a quality phone that ticks so many boxes and still fits into a shirt pocket with ease,i can certainly see myself using this handset for a long time to come, it has everything i need and more, even a free sat nav! ( data charges may apply)Any downsides? Well yes the lock button on top of handset is useless and is a design flaw on this otherwise brilliant handset, check google to confirm it is indeed a design flaw, the button is incredibly hard to activate and in a few cases has damaged handsets with users pressing too hard on the button,i am sure the guy responsible for that has had his rear well and truly kicked over that one but the good news is you can lock the handset much easier pressing A on keypad, then pressing power button in for a few seconds to unlock.I also received the 2 handsets next day thanks to amazon prime and have a full 12 month back up with amazon if any issues with the handsets.If you want this handset then check on amazon frequently as they sell out very fast, not surprising when they where being sold so cheaply.Hope this review has helped at least a few people decide if its for them.I am a very happy 9790 owner.For me this particular blackberry handset is the perfect phone and is a joy to use.Well done blackberry.

This is a great mobile phone I have used it for 6 months and it is nice to hold and light weight. Great software fast and quick very impressed. However be warned that the lock key on the top middle of the phone is not great and I got a hair line crack on mine not great material for such a good phone. In terms of build quality the bold 9700 and 9780 are better as the positioning of the buttons on the top are on the left and right and it also included is a silant button which the 9790 does not have. Apart from this the phone is good.

The phone was faulty when i received the product had it checked only to find out the phone was completely blocked so it would never be able to be used. I'm in the process of getting a refund as ihad to return the product. found the same product cheaper with ebay and I'm very satisfied. This is the first time ihave had problems with a product from Amazon, disappointing but it has not put me off ordering in the future.

I previously had a BlackBerry Curve 8900 and I've spent a lot of time with iOS and Android phones.When I was choosing my next phone, I was torn between the Bold 9900 and the 9790 - both of which were released around the same time, similar specs etc. In the end I went for the 9790 and have had no regrets. Despite having a slightly slower processor, there is no hint of lag. The camera is better and battery is also better. The only thing is that the screen is smaller however it has the same resolution which means that the 9790 has a higher pixel density.Build:When I first received the 9790, I was surprised at how light and well built the phone is. It feels solid in the hand and that's more than I can say for some of the previous BlackBerrys. The rubberised back is nice to hold and ensures your phone won't slip out of your hand. The USB port has been moved to the bottom of the phone which is actually an advantage, this means holding the device is easier if you need to use it whist it's charging. The dock charging points on previous BlackBerrys have been removed so docks will have to use the USB port. The trackpad is very sensitive however there is a slight wobble when you use it, although having read other reviews, I'm assured this is normal. The top "Unlock" button seems to be a little tough and I'm unsure the longevity of the plastic over use; however, for now I'll say it works well.Screen:The screen is very responsive to touch and it's sharp with punchy colours. It's also very bright so you may want to turn it down to save some battery. The front of the phone including the screen is one piece of plastic that goes all the way to the top so if you scratch your screen it may be hard to replace. The flush screen means that a screen protector will be very noticable so you may want to invest in case. The screen is actually plastic, not gorilla glass (9900 has glass).Keyboard:One of the main reasons to get a BlackBerry is the physical keyboard and the 9790 has one of the best that BlackBerry has ever made. The keys are big and have a reassuring feel to them. It's also quiet, unlike the Curve keyboards which have a loud click with every button press. The keyboard uses the whole width of the phone, right up to the edge. This takes some getting used to but in the end it's been made that way so you have a larger keyboard.Camera:It's the same as the 9700. It's not amazing but it's not that bad either. It is fairly slow to focus sometimes but the photos are surprisingly natural. There is a dedicated camera key on the side of the phone but it's not a two stage press so you can't prefocus.OS:The OS is great, it's very fast compared to previous BlackBerry OSs and is designed well for the touch screen. I have had this phone over 2 months now and I haven't experienced any lag. It comes with OS7.0 which is good but I encourage you to update to OS7.1. It brings in extra features such as Mobile Hotspot, BlackBerry Tag (extra NFC capabilities) and most importantly it has much better battery life. BlackBerry remains the best operating system for Email and BBM is also great as ever. The web browser is much better than previous BlackBerrys but is still behind Android and iOS in terms of speed.Cons:-The battery life isn't great when you first receive it however after a few days it settles down and can easily last a day. It's slightly better than Android and iOS devices but you'd still need to charge it every day. The OS7.1 update has improved the battery life significantly and you can expect around 3-5% an hour drop with average use.-Although integration is great throughout the phone, the Facebook app (v3.0) is still some way behind the Android/iOS/WP equivalents. The Twitter app is pretty good though.-The rubberised coating on the back cover of the phone has started to wear off. Particularly in the top left corner and around the headphone and USB port. I guess this is due to the extra usage of those areas such as when you're fumbling to plug in your charger.-The OS is designed for pure communication function and it's definitely the best OS for it. Email and messaging is far better than any other OS. Entertainment has taken a back seat and as such the media functions aren't as pretty as the other OS alternatives.-Leading from the last point, the App World has far less apps and entertainment apps than the App Store or Android Play.Overall I would highly recommend this phone, as long as you know what you're getting. It's the perfect BlackBerry and ideal for those of you who want the best communication device.

Un petit bijou de portable. Pas très épais, et très fonctionnel, c'est un vrai régal. Les touches sont encore plus faciles d'utilisation, tout en restant sur ce célèbre clavier à petites touches. J'adore !

Encuentro un telefono de tamaño ideal para los bolsillos, ligero y potente. La unica pega es que la bateria con modo 3g i 2g consume mucho, cosa que se subsana escogiendo el modo 2g cuando no necesites el 3g.En resumen buen telefono.

Ottimo. E' una macchina da lavoro. E' bello, leggero, veloce. Ottimo audio, touch discreto, batteria da 1 giorno (max 1 giorno e mezzo se usato poco). Vengo da un iPhone 4 e non mi sono affatto pentito del salto. Le app non sono allo stesso livello dell'App store di Apple naturalmente, ma quelle più importanti (da dropbox a whatsapp e evernote) ci sono tutte e funzionano benissimo. La tastiera fisica fa la differenza!

Ich bin schon seid ca. 1 Jahr ANDRIOD Nutzer mit folgenden GerätenHTC WILDFIRE SMOTOROLA DEFYSE XPERIA RAYwarum also ein RIM gerät.android phones im obigen Preissegment sind alle samt viel zu langsam und haben zu wenig internen Speicher .der Akku hält bei allen gerade mal ca . 1,5 Tage ( ohne Apps (juice defender, green power, internet commander etc )).langsam bedeudet das wenn man Sie mal benutzen möchte immer nach dem Entsperren gefühlt 1-2 Sekunden warten mußbevor man mit der bedienung anfangen kann. Dazu kommt das wirklich miserable Telefonverhalten ( Aufbau als auch Qualität)--- also dachte ich mir .. man blackberry wieso eigentlich nicht !wetter app , whatsapp, und alle so diese MUST-Have's runtergeladen ( ja gibs auch bei Blackberry)und sieh da .... es geht ..... keine Telefonabrüche , Akku 2-3 Tage (ohne APP) 8 GB interner Speicher , 1 Ghz Taktfrequenz.eine super Tastatur.also an alle die mit dem Android Gedanken spielen ... probiert mal RIM 7.0 aus .nach kurzer Eingewöhnung bedient IHr euer neues Telefon fast blind . Ihr habt eure Daten auf dem Telefon Viel besser im Griff,Email , WhatsAPP, SMS, ----> DANKE TASTATUR ( kommt kein Swype etc gegen an )ein sehr schönes kleines Gerät welches ohne Probleme ohne Beule in die Jackettasche past , alsauch in die Jeans.Super Klangqualität, leider ein leicht beschränktes APP Kondingent aber alles wichtige ist eigentlich da .man kann Telefnonieren !!! und Schreiben, ein rundes Kommunikationswunder.bin zufrieden
