I have ordered these many many times over the years and they have been just fine and worked well. They come packaged very well, in plastic trays, with protective cellophane plastic protecting the glass fingerprint area and the entire unit that has to be peeled off to be ready for use.However, I recently ordered 2 of these biometric finger print readers and they arrived packaged very differently then they ever have, which made me initially suspect. Well it turns out they were used and refurbished. Neither one worked. I sent them back for a replacement. I received the new ones a few days later. Guess What... yep same packaging, same refurbished used fingerprint readers. I tried them both and they did not work, which I knew they wouldn't becuase the gel/glass area for your finger print was scuffed, dirty, and cloudy which is why it can't read the fingerprint. So I sent those back, telling Amazon that these are being sold as "New" when they are not. The return process as always with Amazon was very easy, and I got two more replacements, and it was the same damn thing. Smudged, scratched, and clearly used and refurbished, and not very well refurbished I might add. And both did not work. So I sent them back just today, and will not reorder these from Amazon until they look into this and can guarantee that the product I am receiving is brand new, and I wanted to warn others not to buy this product either. I have sinced ordered two of these from a Biometrics Company that specializes in on Biometric devices.

New units works first time every time compared to the crappy garage-sale quality remanufactured my company insists on using. Too bad I had to buy two at my own expense for the cheap multi-million dollar company I work for.
