Great book for some fun weekend projects
I have already read through the book a few times and I have worked on a couple of the projects. The projects listed are very fun and range from beginner to expert, however, no matter the lever of skill required, I recommend doing more research online about the project as a few of the ones in the book are slightly vague. I found that some of the projects had more detail then ever while others had about 1/3 the necessary steps listed. Additionally, there is very little explanation of what certain parts of the project do so there isn't a lot of learning as much as just following step by step instructions and assuming the author knows what they are talking about. Overall, it is a great book for reading on the toilet or in bed before you want to call it a night and many of the project are fun and simple enough to tackle over a weekend.A slight recommendation to anyone wanting to attempt any of these projects is to buy your parts online and only go to RadioShack when absolutely necessary. I spent about 80% more on one project at radio shack than I would have online.

projects
My husband saw this in a bookstore and later said he wished he'd bought it, so I found it on Amazon - and it was a bargain. My husband and 16 year old son have found a couple of neat projects to replicate. Now all the neighborhood boys are making ping pong ball shooters using cardboard tubes, plastic water bottles and hairspray. Next up is a potato launcher.

Not Exactly the 'Best' of Make
Selections are always arbitrary, but I've seen more interesting projects in Make magazine than some which are presented in this collection. A few suffer from a common problem; the author writes about a project made from the junk he had on hand which may be very difficult to copy. For example a hack of a C64 DTV joystick sounded interesting until I went looking for the thing. Unless you luck out at a yard sale, they are not easy to find.It does give someone an overview of what the maker movement is all about and there are some projects that can be done inexpensively with common materials.

Understand the level of the projects in this book.
Read the other reviews carefully to understand the level of this book. I did not and was looking for a basic, teach-me-how type project book for a semi-savvy beginner (I can solder). This book is above that level and was not particularly useful to me for most of the projects. I gave it to the local public library for people with a more developed geek quotient than I have at the moment. I'll check it out later. I found other MAKE books (e.g., Make: Electronics) are more at my level.
