Avoid Unless You Want a Basic Introudction
This book is cheaply produced (very cheap paper, printing and cover) and can't have been sub-edited - it is full of errors of English: some sentences have 2 errors. It is not just the English the FoxPro is ambiguously described at a number of points. The book claims that it covers versions 6 to 9 of FoxPro. However, I could find little in the book covering versions 7 to 9. The book is a basic coverage of FoxPro aimed at the beginner or intermediate user. In terms of working with web pages - there is nothing. There is a chapter on working with other software packages. There is an explanation of importing and exporting data. 2 sections follow on working with Word Mail merge and Excel. Most of the section on Excel focuses on using FoxPro to store data in an Excel spreadsheet that has been created / opened via the FoxPro code. There is a short discussion of using CursorAdapter class to access data. This is fairly basic and ends with: "A detailed discussion of the CursorAdapter class is beyond the scope of this book. Refer to the Visual FoxPro documentation for additional information." So there we have it.I am passionate about FoxPro and sorry that there aren't good books / manuals to show people how to use what (it has to be said) is a complex but highly flexible product. There is a huge amount on the web but most of it in specific articles with their own style. I fear that FoxPro is heading to the museum of programming languages because new generations of programmers find it so hard to access. A well written manual would change that.
