101 Jazz Songs for Trumpet - Trumpet Music Book with Jazz Standards and Contemporary Favorites - Trumpet Book for Beginners and Advanced Players

I haven’t played since the 80s (high school) but got the bug last year, influenced by my son is now in his third year of trombone; I bought a used Flugel. I’ve been using the David Hickman book (100 Progressive Lessons), which is very helpful and has formed the structure of my regular practice. But I’m loving playing these jazz standards to supplement that.

I like this book it’s not for beginners it’s for the more experienced and the highest note is a high g I think and it’s great it has fly me to the moon in it thank you for reading this

I really liked this book. I haven't played the trumpet in 30 years but I bought a student trumpet and after 5 days it was like I was back in high school band. It all came back to me right away. However, I still need to build my embouchure. This book has a lot of fantastic songs (many are familiar to me) and they are all easy to play. I'm not ready for intermediate just yet, but this books isn't totally a year one level. I also like that it has the jazz chords (not easy). I have my son play them on the piano (he has to transpose them for my B flat trumpet) and we have mellow little jazz gigs in the house. I even bought a snare and cymbal to let my daughter learn and give us a smooth soft percussion (using brushes). Very good book. I think it would be fun if there was another book with all 101 same songs but with a more advanced compositions. I'm always trying to add my own fill-ins to spice up some of the simple styles that this books gives.

A collection like this for trumpet should have these songs transcribed from the concert key to Bb for trumpet. These tunes are inconsistent. Some of them are in Bb, some of them are in the original concert key, and some others are in different keys all together. The first one I noticed was "Stella By Starlight." In this book it's printed in the concert key and a trumpet player would have to move every note a full step up to play it with a piano player in the original key. It would be much better for the trumpet player to get these tunes under their fingers in the correct key first. I just got this book and these errors are immediately apparent. I may have noticed some errors to the melodies too while thumbing through the book. Perhaps I'll make an update to this review as I identify more of its issues.A great collection of songs, of course, but a big disappointment that it's not truly a book arranged for trumpet as advertised.

An excellent set of American jazz standards with guitar chords as well. They are simple enough to pick up quickly, but lend themselves to interpretation. I use this for both trumpet and my flugelhorn for the ballads and mello songs.

I am better at reading bass clef even though I am playing trumpet, and because this was in lower treble clef range I could read and play it all. It was well worth the investment. All of these songs are easy to play.

I Exchanged the tenor saxophone book for this with this one because the tenor sax book is in the wrong key; not Bb.

The music is printed in large clear type with good spacing and excellent layout. learners will be comfortable with many of the songs and intermediate players will not be stretched. The range of keys is limited to 5, quite deliberately I am sure, from Bflat to DMajor, so nothing challenging in that respect. Many of the numbers are suitable for playing in jazz or swing styles. The repertoire extends from circa the 1920s to the 80s with many numbers considered to be the golden oldies of main stream jazz. I particularly like the fact that the accompanying chords are printed on the score - that is not always the case with music for sing note instruments, I have used the book a great deal for routine practice but I look elsewhere when building up to performing more demanding and complex numbers. Overall a quality book at an excellent price.

This book contains simplified (and reduced to 1 page) versions of the songs. The arrangements are not transposed to Bb trumpet (which is mostly used in jazz) key, so if you want to play along (e.g. with background audio) you'll have to transpose. Good thing though, you can play on any instrument pitched in C.Paper sheets are glued so you have to straighten the book really hard and fix it somehow on a music stand.

This is a useful collection of standards, clearly printed with accompanying chords. It is not really a trumpet book, however, as these are all concert pitch arrangements. The only change is this addition of the word “trumpet” in the top left-hand corner of each melody. To play these in the right key on a Bb horn, everything needs transposing up a tone.

An excellent selection of well known and catchy tunes. Great for practice. Obviously they are not the full score-but are long enough to enjoy the melody. The difficulties vary-but they are within the reach of the average trumpet player and great fun.
