Interesting presentation of Canadian history
I'm an American who has visited Canada six times and I finally decided to try to learn more about its history, having learned no Canadian history in school. Not being Canadian, I can't say if it would be accurate to them, but I learned a lot in reading it and liked the style of writing.

For casual readers
This is not a serious history book. However, it probably works for people who just want an overview or who have short attention spans.

Our Neighbor to the North
Canada is the second largest country in acreage in the world with a population of less than 15% of that of the United States. The first inhabitants came to Canada over the Bering Strait 15000 years ago. Most Canadians live close to the border for various reasons.Europeans, both British and French, came to Canada shortly after Columbus sailed to the ‘New World’, but evidence indicates that the Vikings predated them by several centuries. Canada’s heritage and evolution were shaped by those two countries and their squabbles for dominance in Canada. Canada has always been overshadowed by the United States, but is a formidable presence on the world stage, playing a major, but often unheralded part in both World Wars and the recent War on Terror. If you are looking for a quick synopsis of the history of our laid-back neighbors to the north, you’ll find it here.

Fresh perspective
It is nice to hear Canada’s story from a Canadian view. I was raised in United States hearing history from that side. I enjoyed learning this alternate version.

History of Canada
History of Canada is very well written, just as the other books in the Captivating History series are. To quote a line from the conclusion, “Canada, of course, has long lived in the shadow of other great powers.” Very agreeable as I personally knew hardly anything about the history of Canada. The only reason I give it four stars is that it isn’t a topic I find too exciting. Nevertheless, still a good read.
