I want to continue the tradition…I loved Corduroy as a child

My granddaughter loves these books

We've had this book for about 10 months now, and our son is just getting to the point where he will let me read it to him. Because of some of his unique needs, he struggles with accepting new books into his life.I like that the sentences are simple, and I like that vaccines are included in this book. It is a great book for a kiddo with a short attention span.I did, however, take issue with the part about Corduroy eating too many cookies, and having put on too many pounds. You know, I get that obesity is an increasing problem, but sometimes medical providers over-react when they don't need to. I was blessed to be able to carry one of my pregnancies to term, but a lot went wrong towards the end and for a couple months after, and I ended up needing to switch to formula because of a series of medical complications. When that happened, our baby girl, now a very healthy weighted 10 year old, gained a pound pretty quickly, because formula fed babies tend to put on weight quicker, And I got this lecture from her pediatrician about making sure I didn't over feed her that had me seeing red I was so upset. Because of my schooling and background I understand the importance of healthful eating and living as much as anybody, but I don't see the need of putting that in a book.And I also kind of felt like the part about Corduroy getting a balloon at the end was setting kiddos up for overly high expectations of the end of the Dr's visit reward. Totally, I've never heard of or personally experienced a practice where that is what happens.So overall, I thought this was a good book, I just think the weight comments and the balloon needed to be left out.Edit:I realized this morning as I was working out I needed to be more specific about my objection on the weight comment. Context matters when it comes to weight issues. In the example I gave with my daughter, formula metabolizes different from breast milk, and from my perspective, it is well documented that a baby switched for formula will probably gain some weight, especially on the onset, and that it was both foreseeable and didn't indicate anything that needed to be an immediate concern, and certainly didn't require the kind of lecture I got. But if I hadn't had the background I did, as a parent, I would have left that office feeling like I was screwing up and doing a crappy job, rather then trying to calm myself down from the grapes of wrath I'd started mentally chewing on.Weight matters are complicated, things like frame size, is a child getting ready to have a growth spurt, is there a medical condition or medication causing the weight gain...these are things that matter when you have any sort of discussion about pediatric weight. I felt like it is a more complicated issue than can be appropriately addressed in a childrens book, and that to just lump it in with the bear or a child eating too much...well, maybe that's the case, maybe it's not, but if your kiddo reads this book over and over again, without you helping them put it into context they may assume any problem they have is because they are doing something bad. And that may not be the case at all. And in general, I think obsessing about weight isn't nearly as important or useful for long term outcomes as focusing on health, and what a body can do to support that. Which is why I took a star off.

My daughter loves the original Corduroy book, so I was excited to find this and pair it alongside of a toy Doctor Kit. This book and the kit were wrapped together as a Christmas present for my 22 month old.My daughter enjoys it, so that's a win. In fact, that is probably all that should really matter. She had fun recognizing Corduroy and giggled when she realized she had all of the doctor tools, too.The book itself is super short, but the real reasons I knocked off 2 stars are due to two things in the story:1. The doctor scolds Corduroy for eating too many cookies when he steps onto the scale. I didn't particularly like that. I wish that part had been completely omitted. Instead of including the negative statement, it would have been more helpful for the doctor to remind Corduroy to eat his fruits and vegetables! Something positive instead, and not related to pounds on a scale.2. At the end of the book, Corduroy receives a balloon and a button. Not sure about your doctor's office, but at ours, that kind of reward isn't given out post shots. I'm a little nervous that my daughter might expect this when we have our next vaccination appointment. Yikes!

I bought several books about going to the doctor for my 17 month old son. He was terrified during his last visit, and I'm hoping familiarizing him with the process with help alleviate some of his fear next time. He has another Corduroy book he enjoys, so I had high hopes for this one.My main complaint about this book is in most of the pictures Corduroy appears distressed! It feels like it defeats the purpose of buying it in the first place. I didn't expect happy smiles every scene, but I don't want him to spend half the story with a frightened or upset frown.My second complaint is much more minor, but with the constant repetition of Corduroy's name it's cumbersome to read aloud. I mean, one to two short sentences per page and they manage to shoehorn in his name every time, sometimes even twice.However, despite my complaints, my son does seem to enjoy it. He's brought it to me several times to read, and will sit through several repetitions.

My 15-month old LOVES this book. The story and pictures make going to the doctor familiar and reassuring. In fact, I even brought this book along with us to the hospital for my son's surgery.The only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because on the page where Corduroy gets weighed and measured, the doctor says, "Too many cookies, Corduroy." This is an extremely minor complaint, but I feel like the doctor's message is dated. I know that my son is only 1, but I want him to have a healthy body image and a healthy relationship with food. I took white-out & a sharpie and changed the text to, "So many cookies, Corduroy."All in all, an excellent book. I've even bought additional copies as gifts. Highly recommend.

GRANDCHILD LOVES BOOK

This is a classic, and I purchased this for my VERY doctor resistant 2YO son, who is terrified of everything to do with the doctor. I'm talking a meltdown when he sees a stethoscope. Anyway, this book, while not totally relieving him of his fears, has definitely helped him normalize doctor visits, and given him pictures and words to associate with his visits, which is really important. He notices that Corduroy looks concerned in the pictures, which I think is okay, since it's okay to be nervous when you go to the doctor. It even shows Corduroy getting a shot, and of course the very scary stethoscope. I purchased this with a little doctor's kit toy in hopes that he will be calmer the next time he goes in. It's starting to work!

Why does the doctor in this book fat shame Corduroy for gaining weight and eating too many cookies? I got this book to help my son when he goes to the doctor but I won't be using it now that I've seen the content.

My daughter loves pretending to be a doctor. But is still a little scared of our real family doctor. As soon as I got it. My 3 year old daughter had me read it to her for close to an hour. The words per page are short. But the drawings give a lot of room for a parent to improvise on top of this well done book.

Not much content. Pictures are good. Sturdy board book that wipes clean

Unlike original stories, this one is really lacking text and too simple even for 3 year old. Wish I could see the content before buying. Would return it but as they write the profit goes as a charity for sick kids, I will donate it to the local library instead.

Was wanting a positive child friendly book about going to the doctor. It was broad and has negative body shamming content.
