Definitely recommend it. When I ordered it I didn't expect to be that big and full of pictures , info, quotes, key moments etc. The index is pretty good as well.Really like the way it is organised. Century by century! Love it!

When you place Frida Kahlo on the cover at least make an effort to include women artists. This book is recent which makes it unforgivable, the way the book is made and its contents clearly show that this is a book for newbies interested in Art and even though there has been a general consensus in the last 5 years to make up for the massive lack of representation of women artists in the market and museums (they make up 2%) this book continues this tradition while using Frida Kahlo on its cover. Disgusting. I returned it of course. Here are some women artists not included that have played a major role in art: Hilma af klimt basically the first abstract painter, Sonia Delaunay, Nikki de Saint Phalle, Aloise Corbaz, Louise Bourgeois, those are a good start. Also the display of information is overwhelming, no white space whatsoever.

I utterly love this book & I very rarely bother to write reviews.. It is just the right amount of interesting information on different artists & is a balanced combination of photos, diagrams & writing. It is clearly organised chronologically in each century & then alphabetically too. Great to browse through or check up on details.My one ‘complaint’ is that it’s a fairly heavy book- you could definitely use it in a work out!!

Beautifully presented. Wonderful and insightful.My main gripe being the lack of female artists, I know historically women were forbidden to study art but there could have been a few more inclusions.Oh and the 4 or so female artists mentioned only get 2 pages each dedicated to them, all the male artists got 4 pages.... very frustrating!
