Awesome cable cutter

This is a very slick and well-made unit. It cuts through inner cable or housing like it was butter.I'm an electrician and resisted buying a bicycle cable cutter as the tools I had on hand were doing an OK job. I had the occasional issue with some housings but nothing that a second cut usually didn't cure and maybe opening it back up with a scratch awl so I figured I didn't need to spend cash on a dedicated tool. But this tool does such a nice job that I had to buy it once I held one in my hands. This is a top-quality hand tool. The locking mechanism is a very slick design as is the return spring. It can be easily manipulated and used with one hand leaving the other hand free to hold the cable. The locking cam opens and closes effortlessly with one-hand operation and the spring is designed so that there is no way it can pinch your hand or catch your clothing. The blades are very sharp and don't chip or dull and cut well so there aren't many issues with cable housing coils collapsing. Even if it does get that slight twist sometimes the tool has a deep notch so that you can nip the curlie-cue off easily and get that nice flat & smooth terminal end to the housing that you want. The handle has a luxurious soft-but-durable yellow rubberized grip over a wide curved handle so it is comfortable to use and doesn't dig into your fingers or palm. This cutter has the high-end feel of an expensive electrical tool like those that Klein or Ideal makes.I'd recommend this tool to anyone who is getting into working on their own bicycles. It'll last you a lifetime if you take care of it and keep it dry and safe. This is a true 5-star tool. You really can't go wrong with Pedro's or Park tools. This happens to be the best cable tool I've seen.

A great choice for the weekend bike mechanic!

I decided to save some money by learning to replace brake and gear cables myself. The bike shops want a ton of money to do work like this because it is "complicated and takes special tools and skills." As it turns out, replacing cables is not rocket science. It's quick and simple if you have the right tools... primarily good socket wrenches (which you probably already own) and a good cable cutter. Why? Because a good cable cutter will make clean (no frayed ends) cuts that can be threaded through the cable path easily. You CANNOT use regular wire cutters to cut bike cables. The cables are too tough and they'll "flatten out" and fray, making them difficult to work with. Regular wire cutters MIGHT work, but it won't be much fun. There are many cable cutters available on Amazon, but some are obviously cheap junk and others (that come with blue grips) are simply too expensive for something that most weekend bike mechanics use only occasionally. After researching every cutter on Amazon, I decided that the Pedro cutter was the best choice of me. I'm glad I made that decision because it works perfectly and costs much less than the blue cutters. Every cut was just right and I finished my first cable job with zero problems. It is interesting to read some other users' comments. One person said the Pedro cutters do a terrible job and he could not get a clean cut. That is hard to believe and the great majority of positive comments say otherwise. Another more legitimate criticism is that the Pedro cutters don't have a crimper for the cable tips. That is true. I agree that it SHOULD have a crimper, since that would be a simple addition. However, this is not a deal-breaker because you can buy a decent electrical wire stripper/cable crimper at your local "dollar store" for a buck.To summarize... These are great cutters at a reasonable price. Unless you are a professional bike mechanic who requires the long-term durability of the more expensive Park or Shimano tools, the Pedro cutter will meet your needs, exceed your expectations and will probably last for the rest of your life.

Affordable cable cutters any bike mechanic will like

I've wanted to buy some cable cutters for a while. My dad's electrician tools weren't "cutting it." I found these affordable and dependable. They cut housing and wires easily and somewhat cleanly.Overall, quality and durability is good. Great for the price, keep in a dry, cool place, they tend to rust in moist environments. Lubricate the spring and other moving parts to elongate tool lifeThese cutters cut brake housings with a small bend, but that can be fixed with a file. For shift housings, it is somewhat clean but with a splitting cut. Again, it can be filed down. For wires however, the cut is very clean. Anyways, an end cap covers the cable to keep it from unraveling. The only thing I think Pedro's tools should include is a crimping tool integrated in the cutters. For the price, I think it would be worth shedding some metal to enable easy and professional crimps on your cable ends. That's why I only marked four stars. This is a solid, well built tool that belongs in your home or shop. I recommend this over the Park Tool model mostly for the price.

Quick clean cut

I bought the Pedro cable cutter almost 11 years ago. No regrets, one of the best investments for bike repairs I've ever made. Cuts cables and cable housings like butter. Of course, you will need to open the cable housing with a pick or an awl as they get a little squished.

You should use this tool

I work on my 6 bicycles quite a bit. Diagonal cutters cause cables to fray and later unravel. There are several ways around this happening but a quick easy way are these cable cutters. I use them quite a bit with great success to make my work easier. Good quality pliers.

If you buy discount cable cutters you will be buying these anyway

I bought the $10 cable cutters which are great if you want about 4/5th of your cable cut, with a few straggler wires just bent and then you have to perform wire surgery, likely on yourself. And then you'll buy these next and they actually cut an entire cable cleanly. So save $10 and spend $10 more for these, you'll thank me later.

Molto buone

great cable cutter

Unfortunately the package came opened and the cutter was clearly used with pieces of cable wire in the jaws, in spite of no indication on the item page about it being used. The cutters are good and are able to clip bicycle cables and cable housing.
