The fireplace itself is beautiful. However, this is our third Real Flame insert in 7 months, and we didn’t even start using it until it started to get cold in October. The heaters on ALL of them have succumbed to the 88 error after using for about a month. The second insert was the worst, it only gave us heat in the morning for about a week.What it does: we turn on the heat to 78 degrees, it runs for about 2-3 minutes, emits a loud beep, then turns off the heating element and flashes “88” on the screen.Please note that we only (try to) run the heater for about a half hour in the morning to take the chill off. It isn’t on all day.The company has been good about exchanging them, claiming that “it just doesn’t happen very often!” ...but this is our THIRD. We aren’t sure how this can ONLY be happening to us.We have it plugged directly into the wall, items are a good distance from it.If you only want the ambiance, it is quite a nice unit. If you are looking for it to provide a bit of warmth to your room, don’t go this route. It won’t be worth the inconvenience of having to switch out a new insert every few months, calling the company, pulling the unit away from the wall to have to “reset” it to only get the error again, and listening to your spouse complain about what a piece of crap you wasted your money on.

Not difficult to assemble, but a two person job because of the size and weight. Handsome when assembled. Doesn’t really warm the room, and the flames are not terribly realistic but they’re not too fake. Great addition to the space.
