Lindsey the GIS Professional (STEAM at Work!, 1)

This is a fantastic book to introduce kids to GIS.
Firstly, I am a GIS professional. I got this book as soon as I heard about it because while GIS is a really interesting and incredibly versatile field, it's kind of hard to explain to people sometimes. Usually, I just give up and say something like "I make computer maps" or "I collect information and map it". And while there are analysts that do that, that's not exactly what I do. This book does a really good way of breaking it down through the collection and analysis steps to making a usable map that can present information. The art is cute and colorful, and the glossary in the back does a good job of further explaining specific terms. I would definitely recommend this book, and when we go back to the office, I plan on showing it to people so they can get their kids a copy.

A fun quick read with learning snuck in.
This was a fun read with my almost 5 year old. We learned about how maps are made, which transitioned into satellites and how our smart phones help us find parks to go hike in.

My biography?
As a GIS professional named Lindsey who looks uncanningly like the Lindsey in these illustrations, I approve of this book.

Childhood passion can become an adulthood career
Great book that shows kids how to turn their passion to save the planet in to a life long career.

Great, but illustrations could be improved
I had high hopes for this book, but was a bit disappointed. Lots of text and complex concepts, but the illustrations didn't keep up. Lots of repatitive blue/green colour scheme. Overall it's alright. I have a todler, so haven't actually tried it out with the indended audience yet.
