Hasbro Candy Land Gingerbread House Kit

My mother in law bought this kit for my three year old son for Christmas. I looked at the reviews on here and my heart sank. However, we could not have been more happy with how the ginger bread house turned out! Luckily, our kit arrived in perfect condition (no pieces were broken). I certainly don't want to imply that the users who rated this one star didn't follow the directions, they may have, but I think it is VITAL to make sure you knead the frosting packet for several minutes to warm it up and get it to a good smooth consistency. Also, make sure you follow the directions regarding how big to cut the opening in the frosting packet (1/4 of an inch I believe). We had no trouble at all getting the pieces of the house to stick together! My only negative complaint was that it was a bit messy getting the sprinkles and other small pieces of candy on to the house and not on our floor/table, but that was part of the fun! I highly recommend this kit!! P.S. my son loves playing the candy land board game, so this was a huge hit in our home. 👍🏻🙂

I was so excited to decorate our gingerbread house! We just came back from Walt Disney World and saw their gingerbread village, sort of a normal gingerbread house on steroids. Then reality set in...First, as I opened the box, I saw that the walls and roof were all broken in half. But if I can patch a crack in our bedroom wall, I could certainly fix this. I actually was able to fix the walls, although I had some interesting frosting marks on my house. I decided that I would tell everyone that the house was a San Fransisco House that had been through an earthquake.Then as I started to decorate the house with the frosting, it quickly became apparent that there was no way my house would look like the house on the box. The frosting was not easy to apply and the beads and straight lines in the picture were done with professional tools, and certainly no with the supplied parts. Also there was not nearly enough frosting supplied to decorate.So I made more frosting, got out my cake tools, finished the house and the kids loved it.By the way..I am a professional chef that can carve an eagle out of a 50 Lbs ice block. So if I had trouble...

Well one doesn’t buy these for the taste, nor for the candies. There was a lot of breakage with done small pieces requiring ingenuity to fix it. I wished I had looked more carefully at all the parts to clue the broken pieces together earlier. I am not sure why they haven’t figured out how to package them better.

This arrived in a box with other items. The outer box was intact. However, I could feel the gingerbread shifting in the box when I lifted it out. Sure enough, the gingerbread is cracked. When I went to return/request replacement, there was no option for this. Now, if this had been an $8 item, I wouldn't be as annoyed. But this was $30! My recommendation: shop elsewhere.

The children were so disappointed. When we opened the box the one half of the roof and one wall was broken. We thought okay we'll fix it with icing.... wrong even more parts broke as we were trying to assemble. We finally gave up and said let's decorate this sad looking house. once we started adding icing and candies to the house the gingerbread couldn't take the slight amount of weight and fell in on its self in chunks. Very sad and a waste of money, not to mention the children were so heartbroken​ over this family time craft.

I saw other reviews mention that their box contents were broken on arrival. Our gingerbread pieces were all intact and the candy was as it should be when the box arrived. No complaints. I almost didn’t order it because of the reviews so I wanted to post about our experience in case you are wondering about the quality of this house before purchasing it. Ours was great and my son loved building it.

This kit was awesome! The gingerbread wasn’t stale, the pieces separated with ease. There was plenty of icing and colorful candy. The icing was the perfect consistency. Would definitely buy again.

I was pleased to see how sturdy and well packed the house sections were. There was no breakage at all. It was a good start.Children in this age group are not known for patience when they're expecting a fun activity to begin so I thought I'd start by using the provided icing to "glue" the parts of the house together. I've worked with Royal Icing for many years and am very familiar with its characteristics so the plan was to use my icing to decorate the house after the construction "glue" dried and the house was stable.I've never seen Royal Icing, or something trying to pass itself off as a type of Royal Icing, take so long to dry. The boys of course were eager to begin the fun part and as time dragged on I found the provided icing to be undesirable for that reason. One last caution ... when the house was finally and safely assembled several hours later I noticed that my own prepared icing was pure white, as I knew it would be, but the included icing had taken on a bit of an odd tint trending toward a very pale yellow.In my opinion the bottom line is this. If you're planning to enter the house into a high profile contest of some sort, make your own Royal Icing and your gingerbread too. If however your plan is to delight the young children in your life, by all means give this product a try.

The house arrived broken, candies were loose (out of the plastic bag!).
