The Original Australians: Story of the Aboriginal People

We visit Family on the Goldcoast in September and wanted a Book about there Natives of Australia. We couldn't find any even in the Native Center we visit.It's a good read to learn about the History of the Country.

I bought this book in Australian the 1990s & used it in several anthropology classes. At the time, it was quintessential history on migration to Australia. I highly recommend.

I have followed Josephine around Australia for many a year. Always loved her work. However, this tourist guidebook is a big disappointment. It seems to have been written to counter the assertions of Bruce Pascoe in Dark Emu. She is good enough archealogist but a lousy historian. A true Revisionist tome. Certainly does not seem to recognise the concept of Taphonomy. Aboriginal people did live in villages and farmed country. Aboriginal people were dispossesed. Sure they were different to the conquering invaders but justly attempted to protect the country they had been protecting for eons.

This excellent hardcover readable textbook is a wonderful record of where our first settlers may have come from and how they set about making themselves at home. Seven metre long carnivorous monitor lizards, our own Australian anaconda lurking in billabongs, 2 metre tall leaf-eating kangaroos, and a mean tempered Genyornis bird that could snap your head off with one bite - Welcome to Country! A wonderful record and an absorbing read.

A rivetting and comprehensive account of the history of the Aboriginal people which in part, suprisingly dispels a number of myths regarding massacres of the Aborigines.
