Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station ME918LL/A (Renewed)

The media could not be loaded. I am in no way shape or form a tech savvy nor do I have the brain to hunker down to learn it all. That’s okay. This product used in conjunction with my ISP’s WiFi router is easy to set up. The hardest part is making a solid password that is cleverly not easy to copy and paste in when inputting in during initial configuration. Once that part is figured it works it’s Apple product magic and bam. I do feel better and have seen my network pick up speeds utilizing the bandwidth I pay for. It gives the options for further technical settings within the utility app. With some reading and careful implementation it reciprocates to a novice level demands. Apple does help if you use the hotline and they even emailed me instructions to get more information to learn about my product. Since Apple doesn’t make these anymore it is a refurnished product that is not direct from Apple but I have had success with refurbished products. I thought it was neat that the human being who worked on it to refurbish the product is information that is given to the consumer. Makes me feel safer if anything were to come up I can contact the refurbishing company. Back story. Using the ISP’s rented equipment my network was blah and %#^*ing atrocious also attacked multiple times with no safety security wise. Me not having a background in tech. I struggled and beat my head against the wall many nights frustrated with technology. Since an ecosystem exists for my needs it integrated seamlessly. I haven’t seen my neighbors popping up on my network and stealing WiFi since this has been implemented. Neighbors suck sometimes when you live in a large multi unit apartment complex so this added a healthy not yet obsolete infrastructure that fits my needs. I am not a tech person but this gave me the ease of mind that trash freeloading, snooping, nosey, untrustworthy, nefarious, scandalous, cheap, scummy, lowly neighbors or menacing internet trolls stay away-hopefully. Also, it provides a strong signal contained to my unit only. Not the whole neighborhood which the ISP that will I not say but the company rhymes with xtrinity. With that said the signal is strong. Even runs faster now. I had Ethernet cables with the rented product and it is only marginally noticeable that it’s WiFi. Like barely noticeable but having security stout WiFi is paramount for me. So I disengaged the MoCa network, turned off the WiFi on the rented ISP’s device and tinkered with settings within the network administrator features to ensure the purchased device is the place the WiFi works properly . I explained that as best as I could and I am sorry if that does not make sense. But this device works. It’s running perfectly fine and I am thoroughly grateful that it exists. Thank you Apple and the company who refurbished it. Don’t forget the utility app from the App Store to maximize the productivity of your devices. My small yet happy Apple ecosystem is humming along smoothly. Yall rock (company who refurbished it.) 🤓

I recently switched to Time Warner Cable Internet and got this Airport Extreme router to match with an Arris Surfboard modem. I didn't want to pay the monthly equipment fees for a modem and router, so I got these knowing that they'd ultimately help me break even or save money over time.Even though we only got a 50 MBPS plan from Time Warner, I chose the Airport Extreme over the Airport Express because I wanted to future proof myself a little bit. With the Extreme, I'm getting a router that can easily transmit speeds over 200 MBPS+ in the future that I can extend with a family of Express units If I need to. While I'm in a 1,000 sq foot condo right now, which is 100% covered by the Extreme's Wi-Fi signal, I might be in a bigger place sometime down the road - who knows. I figured it was worth spending a little more to know that I'd be able to use this for years.I set this up quickly and easily from my MacBook Air using the included instructions. While there are fancy, "smart" routers these days that come with mobile apps and other web accessible UIs, I really wanted a normal router that could transmit high speeds, would be easy to set up, and had a very strong signal. I got all of that with the Extreme.We're cord cutters that heavily use Netflix/Hulu/Sling, so it was really important for us to have a router with a strong signal. Between our laptops, tablets, Sonos system, Roku boxes, etc., there are probably about 15-20 devices hooked up to our Wi-Fi at any given time. With our 50 MBPS plan from Time Warner, our Airport Extreme + Arris Surfboard combo easily transmits a signal between 45 MBPS and 55 MBPS everywhere in the house. I'm confident that we're getting little to no slowdown from the Airport Extreme. The good part is that if we upgrade to 200 MBPS down the road, we'll still be in great shape with this router.Really happy with this router! I'd do it again in a second!

Works OK to provide an alternate wifi network, but signal strength proved no greater than our come-with-network modem-routers, and its tech is a decade or more old. If signal strength is what you're trying to improve, I'm loving Eero's affordable Eero 6 mesh router, which is providing a stronger signal (through multiple cinder block walls), with modern Wifi 6 dual band tech, and looks good (in a minimalist way) while doing it.

Some of the best products that apple had ever produced are the AirPort Express and AirPort Extreme routers. Sadly they are not in production anymore but the ones that work keep working for years and years. Simple setup and hassle free administration make these a pleasure to own. The AirPort Extreme’s range is excellent with no dead spots and easily cover a 1000 sq ft apartment. Add a couple of AirPort Express units and you get a seamless, Wi-Fi experience. Thankfully some refurbished units are surfacing now on Amazon. Grab them while they are still available.
