Jazz Standards: 40 Sheet Music Bestsellers Series

I've played guitar off and on since my mid-teen years. But I never got into music theory that much. After retiring I decided I wanted to take on the piano, with an emphasis on learning good theory as well as expanding my genres for playing. Jazz standards were a perfect target for me, and I bought this book first.Three good points to bring up about this book. First, the author(s) have selected some top rated and easily recognizable songs for the collection. Second, the songs chosen have been arranged in a way that makes playing by a relatively new player possible. Third, the overall presentation (style) of the book makes it easy to use and easy to learn the songs inside.

Being a classically trained, intermediate/advanced player, this has been my first experience with playing some jazz on the piano, and I definitely recommend the book to anyone who's like me. The arrangements are excellent, and very much fun to play and listen to. They all have the lyrics and chord symbols, so you can sing along and also start improvising on the scales, if that's what you're up to. Great selection of famous songs, too.

Although this has some great songs I have a good number of them already via other books I've bought. Will keep it for the songs I don't have.

This is a good quality selection, with an unusual variety of songs I don't have in other books. It's well edited and easy to read.

Fun familiar songs! Was looking for something easy/light to play in addition to my Broadway and Disney books, and this was perfect.

Not the best selection of standards and includes some rather dubious modern pop songs. So I will have to look elsewhere for a better collection.

Nice and simple arrangements

Oh this book is scrummy! I wanted a book that I could sit at the piano on an evening or a Sunday afternoon and just relax enjoy some of the most delicious songs under my hands....You can see the list of songs in the description, there are 40 top selling, high quality songs.The arrangements are excellent. Look I don't profess to be an expert but I'm a piano teacher and classroom teacher. I've spent a lot of time transforming crappy arrangements that miss out the cool bits (like the intro in At Last)..... In this book the songs have been carefully worked so that the piano usually has the tune written into the right hand (supporting singers, or sounding good as a solo) AND the seperate vocal line with chords. Print is very clear and also easy to improvise with chord and melody.Most of the songs are in the same key as the most famous recordings on YouTube/CD etc. If say even if you're not the best singer, like me, the vocal lines are written well and easy to access.The piano arrangements I'd say range from around Grade 5 to 7ish. I'm able to sight read most of it while singing unlike some books I've got where it's just not manageable for fun. (I'm a fairly experience pianist and teacher but also now disabled and bit rusty so I was chuffed that I could manage them all. 🎶 🎹The only things that's annoying is the spine. Wish it was ring bound!At 40 songs for about £13 that's 30p a sing which is great value. The chords are like purple chocolate velvet pillow being squished Mmmmm lovely.Highly recomend.

Mein Sohn war zufrieden

Love this book. Quite challenging for me, and probably too tough for beginners. All the keys seem to be spot on. Nice selection of songs, although not all Jazz as such, but who'd buy a music book before they've read the whole content list...?
