Go with what you know! Brand matters

I recently purchased the CRAFTSMAN Torque Wrench, 1/2" Drive as a replacement for a malfunctioning torque wrench that I had previously purchased from Home Depot. Here's my review of the product based on my experience:First and foremost, I was drawn to the CRAFTSMAN brand due to its reputation for quality and reliability. I had heard positive things about their tools, so I had high expectations for this torque wrench. In terms of build quality, the CRAFTSMAN Torque Wrench feels solid and well-constructed. The materials used are durable and give a sense of confidence while using the tool. The 1/2" drive size is suitable for a wide range of applications, making it versatile for various projects. One of the key features of a torque wrench is its accuracy, and I'm pleased to say that the CRAFTSMAN Torque Wrench delivers in this aspect. The wrench is designed to provide precise torque measurements, allowing me to tighten bolts and nuts to the specified torque values with confidence. The torque settings are easy to adjust, and the wrench clicks audibly when the desired torque is reached, providing a clear indication. The handle of the torque wrench is comfortable to grip, and the overall design is user-friendly. The wrench is also relatively easy to calibrate if needed, ensuring accurate readings over time.As for the performance, the CRAFTSMAN Torque Wrench has been reliable and consistent. It has performed well during various tasks, including automotive work and other mechanical projects where precise torque application is crucial. I have not encountered any issues with the wrench's functionality or performance so far.In terms of pricing, the CRAFTSMAN Torque Wrench is reasonably priced compared to other torque wrenches on the market. While it may be slightly more expensive than some budget options, I believe the quality and reliability of the CRAFTSMAN brand justify the investment.Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase of the CRAFTSMAN Torque Wrench, 1/2" Drive. It has proven to be a reliable and accurate tool, which was exactly what I was looking for as a replacement for my previous malfunctioning torque wrench. If you're in need of a dependable torque wrench for your projects, I would recommend considering the CRAFTSMAN Torque Wrench as a solid option.

Click Bait for the Mechanic in us all

The media could not be loaded. Very impressive torque wrench. For a half inch drive, it’s a beast. Very lengthy too, which should help with achieving the higher torque values as I age. It came with a nice case too, to keep it stored properly when not in use. I know there’s been a lot of hating on Craftsman lately but hey, their tools get the job done, and they are economically friendly too. And Ive used all types of brands of tooling and Craftsman is on top for affordability, usability and durability. So, if you’re mechanically inclined and like doing your own work, get one of these to help in torquing all your fasteners properly. It takes the guess work out of it.

Decent Torque Wrench at a decent price point.

I needed a TW for spark plug changes. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on something that won't get used often but I also wanted something of decent quality. After searching Amazon for a few hours and reading tons of reviews on quite a bit of different TW's, I decided to buy this Craftsman's 3/8" drive TW along with a Tekton 3/8" TW. My original plan was to see which one I liked and wanted more and return the other. After seeing them in person I decided I'll just keep them both as I did get both for a pretty good price. The Craftsman was over 40% off at the time also. Each TW is different in its own way. The Craftsman has a 1 year warranty, which was surprising cause I thought Craftsman was known for warranting their tools for life? The Tekton on the other hand does have a Lifetime Warranty. The Craftsman is bigger than the Tekton & it's bigger than I expected. I was looking for a small one since the majority of its life would be for spark plug changes. It's not that it's huge or isn't usable for the task, it's just bigger than the Tekton. The TW bar up near the head is the round style. The head is flat, but not the top part of the bar near the head. The Tekton is the flat style, which I also wanted due to my flat 4 boxer engine and spark plug location- might not be the easiest to get to with a round type. The Craftsman has a click that's way closer together than the Tekton. I'm assuming the Craftsman is a 72 click TW and the Tekton is like a 46 click. The case of the Craftsman is nice looking, but not very practical. It's much bigger than it needs to be and it's got a very unnecessary tool hanger on the top of it. I really wish Craftsman would have just built a hanger into the back of the case or not use one at all, but I'm glad the case was included with the TW. The stamped engravings on the TW bar are easy to read and will hold up for the long term compared to the laser etched readings on the Tekton. The readings on the collar look to be laser etched, might not hold up for the long-term depending how you take care of your stuff. The Craftsman manual specifically says to set the TW at it's lowest TORQUE RATING (not zero) while it's not in use. It also says NOT to use this to break things loose. Only use it as it's intended which is to Torque things down in the clockwise position. The best part of the Craftsman is the handle. It's super comfortable to hold. It's not cold metal like all other TW's. It's easy to adjust and comfortable to use. Craftsman TW came with a spec sheet, dated for July 22 which was nice to see. Now whether or not all of the companies are masd printing these sheets and just putting some random numbers on them or actually testing them is another question. There was another TW I looked at, and alot of the reviews had the same exact numbers, date, and person who tested them. That's what makes me question how reliable these spec sheets are. I was also surprised to see that Tekton didn't include one. It has a sticker on the TW that says it's calibrated and tested, but again, who knows. Other than that, it's a pretty basic TW but seems to be a decent one at its price point. I've also left a review over on the Tekton 3/8" TW if you'd like to compare. To be fair, I've rated both TW's a 3-star for everything and will update after I get to use them.

Excellent tool for the price

The media could not be loaded. I have a cheapo Pittsburgh (Harbor Freight) torque wrench that goes up to 150ft lbs and I have a small Craftsman torque wrench for inch lbs. When I needed something bigger, I figured I was going to have to pay quite a bit for the better quality that I’ve seen in my Craftsman wrench. To my surprise, this one was only $60, which is cheaper than the HF Pittsburgh of the same size. It’s a no brainer.Size is good; the 24” long handle gives the leverage you need for higher torque values. It gives a solid click when you hit your torque, and you can feel it in the handle as well (see video). It is easy to read, and you set it by pulling down on the spring-loaded collar and twisting the dial to the desired torque. Performance seems good so far- I had to torque a bolt to 240 and it did it with no problem. It comes with the calibration report showing its accuracy before it left the factory. The wide torque range makes it pretty versatile for medium to heavy duty jobs.It comes in a nice looking case, too!
