How to Buy a House: What Everyone Should Know Before They Buy or Sell a Home Paperback – May 10, 2017

I am relatively new to RE purchasing. I started with my first purchase on a multi-family property a little over a year ago. At that time I had read a lot of popular well known books and thought I was prepared, however getting ready to purchase a new property I decided to read a little more on the subject, and hence how I came across this book. I have now learned, thanks to this book, that I did a lot of things wrong with my first purchase and as much as I am kicking myself I am just glad I found this book this early in my career. It covers practically every imaginable topic in a clear and concise format without wasting your time dragging things out just to get the page count up, like many authors seem to do. And the best part is how it is formatted. It is as if Mark was aware that it is a great read front to back, but more importantly will be a great reference throughout the years ro come and therefore he has made it easy to grab off the shelf and find a specific topic quickly for a quick refresher, due to the clear chapter titles and grouping. I look forward to my next RE purchase and know I am much more prepared to get a great deal.TL;DR Don't buy another RE property without reading this book first and know it will also be and great future reference.

I have read all of Marks books ,this one is packed with information on the purchase of your next home or hopefully a rental property. I have followed his information and recently purchased a triplex with Marks insight. This particular book touches on every aspect of real estate with key details needed to locate,, inspect, determine value, place bid, get financing, title insurance, Realtor responsibility to closing. I can honestly say this is a complete book on every term used in real eatate. It will give you confidence in discussing details with buyers sellers and realtors if your in the market to buy a home. Love the details on your advice for people with multiple rental properties to get financing. Looking at buying another rental with this advice. Great book Mark, keep up the great work.

Mark is a very experience investor and a realtor so I didn't think he could write a basic book for first time home buyers or new investors on their first property, but he did it. The book is full of knowledge not from just theory but from buying and selling many houses on the street. The book is an excellent walk through of a home purchase process with all of it's trials and exhilaration. I've been a real estate investor for over many decades and have forgotten some of the key components that I now take for granted. I highly recommend, no I strongly suggest you purchase this book in any format because just one idea or one chapter that triggers your thoughts to check on any aspects of the purchase process will either save or make you 10x or even 100x the cost of the book. But then again you can just wing it and trust other people with your money and hope and pray for the best. Good Luck you need it. Better thought is get the book and save yourself much needed pain and maybe a little peace of mind. Hope this helps. Pete

After searching for years..., I FINALLY FOUND a real estate investment GURU thru Mark Fergusons advice, that's worth its weight in GOLD...!!! Being a former real estate agent as well as having spent years formally in the housing construction field, all I ever wanted was to be a legit REAL ESTATE INVESTOR, creating a cash flow machine, and rebuilding communities...!!! Most of the "get rich nothing down" advice from my past experiences, have just left me confused and broke, with no tangible expert knowledge to ever work with! I can now learn and have a CLEAR strategy for my future investment/reconstruction goals...!!!

This book contains a lot of excellent advice about buying homes for both new and experienced buyers and sellers. The author provides very sound advice on not only buying and selling, but also the housing market, how to decide if you should rent vs. buy, maintaining your home, etc... I was a bit worried that the book would just be for first time home buyers, but I was fascinated with the section describing housing bubbles and why the author doesn't think we are currently experiencing a bubble, just a healthy market that will continue.I also appreciate the organization. Each chapter stands on it own so you can just flip to the section that interests you without the need to read all the previous section. In fact, I think this should be called a "Handbook for Home Ownership" since it has more advice than just how to buy a house.

The book is amazing! I am learning a ton. Only rated this 4 stars simply because the clear differences in the industry in Denver (where the author is from) vs California. The book is still providing a ton of value for me, but I wish that difference was communicated a little more clearly.

I really learned a lot about the home buying process from this book. I didn’t think it was going to be as useful as it was but Mark does a really good job of getting information quickly and thoroughly. His experience as a real estate and investor gives you a complete look at the entire real estate transaction. He also will repeat information and concepts multiple times throughout the book which helped me remember them. I highly recommend this book to someone who wants to buy a house and is unfamiliar with real estate transactions.
