Terrible Narration... Ruins the Entire Story
It's an excellent novel but not good enough to survive this Audible narration. This narration is powerful enough to ruin the entire series. Don't subject yourself to it.

Met and exceeded my expectations
Seller delivered book in perfect condition, even included the original insert from Easton that provided some background on Zelazny and the Amber series. More than satisfied.

The first Amber book doesn't disappoint.
I read the Amber series by Zelazny many years ago and have been slowly buying up all of the books again to re-read. Even years later the series, and this book in particular, doesn't disappoint.

An Amber gem - retelling the world in shadow
A world in which a huge family wars against each other for a mysterious throne, where no one can be trusted and where, despite that, the protagonist - Corwin - puts his faith in some of his relatives. This is not the typical royalty warring tale, however. This story sets up a dark world, where imagination can shape the shadows beyond amber into worlds and people that can be used or loved. There is a sense of the old world - with art come to life and to hand through tarot and drawings, and swords and crossbows as weapons of choice before guns... but there is also a touch of the new, in the wars Corwin faced on shadow Earth and his itching sentiments against complete, needless destruction. There is also the lingering sense that something else has come into play. The princes' father is missing, presumed dead, but the inkling in the back of my mind is that there is more to it. The shadows are ominous, almost more than the brothers and sisters, the royalty of amber, can control. I find myself questioning what is really real (without the irritating semi-real, are-we aren't-we quality of existentialist books) and what will come in the following novels.Corwin is a strong character, a touch brutal, but I found myself on his side after the first few chapters, as he made sensible decisions against his also wily relatives and opponents. The writing style is lush without being overpowering or boring. At times sentences seem half complete or description a little confused in its telling but this is easily overcome.I am unsure as to why this series is not better known. I'm fully intrigued by this world and would enjoy reading more in the same series.

Interesting but a bit short
Good book, made better by the fact that there are 10 more, which makes up for the fact that it is very short. Hopefully the future books will help you to care more about the characters, which this book didn't because of it's lenth.
