Interlux Y4248/QT Brightside Polyurethane Paint - Fire Red, Quart

Really excellent for giving the boat a brand new look. Went on smooth with no gloppy lumps.

A high quality finish without mixing. I used this on a solid core door to which I fastened legs and made a sewing table for the spouse. I applied Pre-Kote primer first, sanded, then put on two coats of Brightside. It was easy to apply and makes a hard surface that even sewing pins don't penetrate.The best technique for applying this is the rolling and tipping method. If you aren't familiar with this, check out youtube videos under roll and tip boat painting. This method gives a surface that appears to be sprayed on at a factory. You can even paint a car with this method.

This is great single part poly paint. Previously used Pettit but this time I went with Interlux. It's a bit more durable than the Pettit stuff but it's not 2-part and not durable like 2-part. The good thing is you can touch it up pretty easily since it's single-part. One thing I love is how smooth it goes on. Normally I roll and tip but for this I was able to just roll and it leveled out amazingly well. Added some of their non-skid grit for nonskid areas and it applied very well there too. I'm a fan.

Interlux bright side white, I used this on my 1974 ketch, to cover three coats of previous paint. The results were as good as my preparation. Where I carefully sanded and blended old chips the paint looked great, smooth, almost a gel coat like gloss. Where I missed spots sanding, the flaws could be seen through the paint. It all looks great from 5 feet away. I just used a small roller and tipped it with a brush. Very fast application.

Arrived on time. Right color. Search "roll and tip" boat paint on you tube and watch a couple videos to learn the technique. Used 1 quart and 1/3 of another of steel gray. Covers alot of area. Was worried about it being too thin, so just rolled it on straight out of the can with a 6" foam roller in 2'x2' sections, then tipped with a brush. The brush strokes self level in a matter of a minute or 2. Covered well with no primer. Had to touch up a few spots but that was just where I got lazy and missed some spots. Best tip I got is.... you can use cheap foam rollers but spend a little extra and get a quality brush! You'll thank me later

We bought the yellow. Maybe other colors work better, but the first coat seemed translucent. There was a yellow tint but mostly we could see right through it. Also, the paint seemed to bubble or to blister going on. It was like there was foreign matter in the paint, but it was well mixed and we couldn't see any lumps in it in the can, not until it went on the boat. Then it was lumpy. So we waited more than a week and sanded the whole boat down again (180 grit, 400 grit, 800 grit) and tried again. Bad idea. The second coat seemed to hate the sanded surface. It sort of beaded up, wouldn't spread evenly. We didn't even finish the second coat. We going to toss this paint and buy something else and try again in another week or so, once we're sure this coat has fully cured. What a mess.

Love this paint. It goes on smooth. Especially if you roll and tip. Definitely add the brushing fluid to adjust to your painting style, temp, and humidity. I painted the interior of a fiberglass dyer dinghy and it has held up great.
