Sweet potato slips

The seller should be ashamed to send these things they called slips, these will definitely not grow or produce anything so don’t waste your money on this seller, I’m still waiting for seller to contact me to replace the slips or refund my money

Please read full review. Buyer beware!

I have grown different varieties of potatoes for several years and decided I wanted to try this Japanese variety (I love the flavor).Unfortunately only a few farms seem to be selling these. Blindly with few reviews I went with this company. To my uter dissapointment I received three potatoes that looked like bottom of the barrel store bought ones, unprotected in just a shipping box. I could have picked up better at my local Japanese grocery market. They were not beginning to grow (every seeding potatoe I have purchased in the past have the eyes beginning to sprout) and looked unhealthy at best. They are also usually protected in a bag along with some soil. Not knowing this variety I still decided to give them a try and with great care and with excellent soil, I attempted to get them to begin growing (I actually tried two different ways to get them to start). As you can imagine I got nothing. No growth at all after 3 weeks. Just sickly dead potatoes.I guess I will be giving up on this variety until a farm I can trust starts selling them. Do not be like me. Skip this company.

Purple Japanese sweet potato slips

Package came on the delivery date. Potato slips were fresh and in good condition. Would purchase from this store again.Trudy Wilkinson.

these are not slips.

Slips are parts of a potato that have thee eyes grown out an eye and producing roots. These are sticks. cuttings, at best with no leaves, no roots. I will attempt to make them into slips but, WOW, what a racket they have going on! must be nice with such a low cost high profit sale.

Give the slips time

The slips didn't look that great when they arrived (just vines no leaves and a bit dry feeling) but after about 3-4 weeks I have several leaves sprouting up. Just be patient sweet potato slips are pretty resilient, give them time. Overall packaging could be better but they grow.

Not what you would hope for.

These slips came and were about 3" long and appeared to be cuttings from mid-vine with tiny almost roots making an effort. I immediately planted them in good soil in a pot to give them a chance, but within 24 hours they were dried up and dead. I had hoped for plants with sturdier roots and perhaps a few leaves, so they would have a good start. These were of no use.

Vastly different results from these 3 cuttings

The package contains three little sticks with their ends wrapped in wet paper towels. The instructions say to put these into water until roots start, but all three had roots already starting so I put them straight into the mushroom compost mix that I had for all of my garden this year. All three were started in the same pot, with the same exact potting mix, in the same sunlight and weather as each other. One never went anywhere further than being planted. No leaf growth was ever seen. The other two are as pictured. I shall update this post when I'm ready to dig up the actual sweet potatoes. So far, this is very expensive for what it is.
