Marina Decorative Gravel, 1-Pound, Purple

I'm a college student and I just recently bought a betta fish. She's super cute and I named her Bub. After I got her I realized I had been doing a few things wrong. The substrate in her tank was extremely rough and I read that bettas can hurt themselves if the rocks in the bottom of the tank aren't smooth so naturally I decided to buy her new rocks. They were exactly what I thought they would be, small smooth lavender colored stones. I followed the instructions on the package about washing them and putting them in the tank before I put my betta in her fancy new fish bowl with her fancy new rocks. Immediately she started acting strange. She began to swim oddly around her new fish bowl and tried to jump out of the water (something she had never done before). I though maybe it was because of the new scenery... I was wrong. Eventually after about ten minutes of her freaking out she stopped moving a lot. I could tell she was still alive because every once in a while she would move just a little bit. I looked it up on google and was led to believe she was sleeping... I was wrong again. She was in the tank for probably about six hours (I had been in and out of the dorm all day) before I decided something was really wrong. Usually when I would come back to the dorm after class she would come out of her little pirate ship and start swimming around but she hadn't moved for hours. Even when I'm just working at my desk she still usually swims around. I did more investigating online and found out that bettas act like Bub did when the ph isn't right or they are in a toxic environment. After finding this out I began to panic because she had been in the tank for a long time. I quickly moved her back to her old fish bowl with her old rocks and different water and she still didn't move very much. Every once in a while she would flinch or spaz a little. It was awful to watch. I went to sleep that night thinking I would wake up to find my fish dead. Thankfully when I woke up she was still alive and had begun to swim around again. It was about a day until she acted like she used to.In conclusion, DO NOT BUY THIS GRAVEL FOR AN AQUARIUM. I read some of the other reviews that said it worked great for them and I don't doubt that it did, but my fish almost died. If I were buying again I would just go to a pet store and buy gravel rather than order online. Don't risk your fish's life by buying this gravel.

It's gravel. Nicely smoothed so no rough edges, and a bright blue--the product was very close to the color on my monitor. I've added a picture showing the package size for 1lb of this gravel--it's a little taller than a Sharpie marker, about the size of a package of cat treats, as someone in the household immediately noticed.

Purple is a good color to spot on thru the fish tank and it's a pretty color to look at with other coloruful fishes and plants and decor. Ordered 1 bag of this fits a small medium size fish tank for beta fish. For bigger tanks I suggest to buy 4 bags ! Rocks are heavy and good quality!

Very pretty & I love the burgundy color (at first). Unfortunately everytime I wash the gravel while cleaning the tank, pieces of the gravel breaks, revealing spots of bright white where the burgundy parts had chipped off. I don't think I'm like a ferocious gravel washer - I just put it in a colander, run water over it, and gently move the gravel around. The chipped parts are getting more and more noticeable in the tank, as I continue to clean the gravel periodically - it doesn't look as pretty as it did the first time I put it in. I'm worried that my fish & frogs might see a small chipped part and mistake it for food and eat it. I think I'll be looking for something to replace it very soon.

I ordered the blue gravel at two different times and ended up with two completely different blue colors. The first order was mid September of this year, and the gravel was a deep dark blue. It was really pretty and I loved the way it looked in the tank. I finally got around to ordering more to fill the tank and ordered a couple more bags of blue. The blue that came this week is a bright aqua blue, no where near the dark blue that I first received and no where near the color on the product image. Outside of that, the gravel that I put in the tank in September still looks great and I would buy this again, but am bummed that different colors of blue were received without knowing that there would be that much of a variation (added a product image to show the difference in blues).

Perfect amount for a smaller tank. I was pleased with the low amount of dust that came off of these during rinsing. They are a gorgeous contrast to some slightly larger white stones I used to accent this. Pleased with the price and my purchase, I highly suggest these if you want to create your own blend of colors or simply have a smaller tank.

My dark blue betta fish, Simon, needed to change the look of his apartment (tank) and wanted something other than the normal blues, purples, or pinks available. This really brightened up his apartment and he looks stunning next to the bright colored rocks.

I like these non toxic black rocks. They do claim to be dust free but you can see a little in the package itself. The instructions indicate to rinse them before pouring them into your tank and after doing so it went away.Fact: My perception of 1 pound is off because I expected more, but that's my fault not the product itself *Face-palm* In conclusion, I will be ordering more. (:

I love the colour and the weight of the bag but I've had to buy another one because it barely coated the bottom of my 40l tank. I also balked at the "dust", inside which the packaging recommends you rinse off. What with? I didn't want to waste tank water and wasn't sure tap water would be safe. Anyway, rinse gravel next time you change the water and use the tap safe. And buyb two bags minimum unless you have a micro-tank.

Great bright colour. Totally misjudged how much I would need, so I have bought a couple more. Did not make the water cloudy as other reviews have said. Washed using a sieve/colander a couple times and did the trick.

This is my go-to gravel whenever I need to purchase any. The dust-free and silky appearance looks great in my aquarium. You don't get much for your money but you get what you pay for!

Lovely gravel, I've used it to add a splash of colour to my tank. Looks great and caused no upset to the fish!
