Directions on boiling a dozen crabs,0ne pound of shrimp or crawfish;In a large pot add 2.5 quarts of water and 5 table spoons of salt ,bring to a rolling boil and put your seafood and 1 table spoon of zatarain's liquid crab boil,return to a boil for about 2-5 minutes and then turn off heat ,let sit to saturate the seasoning about 2-5 more minutes for shrimp, and crab and crawfish for about 20-30 minutes.Hope this is helpful.Thank You

It isn't inherently "hot" or "mild". It's a spicy flavor that is instilled in the shrimp as they cook. The amount of spiciness can be altered by using more or less liquid when you boil the shrimp. I use about 2 fl. oz. per pound of raw shrimp. You can use more or less as personal taste dictates.

Q: Can this be used for just a few ounces of shrimp?

I love this product. I use 2-3 tablespoons for a pound and a half of shrimp( 12-16 per pound). Not messy like dry satchels in box. I'd say yes, but adjustments must be made to amount of water and cooking vessel.

Q: Does liquid seasoning contain any onion?

I am unsure. Onion is not listed but it says artificial spice flavors.
