Adorable book.
So cute. What a darling book with a great life lesson. Got for my not-so-confident 3rd grade (8yo) reader. It was engaging and sweet.

Great lesson
My 7 year old loved this book. She said what she loved most is that she learned a lesson and it wasn’t just a story. There are picture’s on quite a bit of pages and she likes that to. Great beginner chapter book.

Great new series (and a great back to school choice, too!)
Yay for Sophie Mouse! I completely agree with the review written by Dallas Mom: "It's . . . nice to find a chapter series that is not filled with modern characters with bad attitudes. There are some good series out there, but so many are junky and mindless. This has a classic, timeless quality." My thoughts exactly! I just read this in 3 sittings to my 6 year old girl and 4 year old boy. It not only was a hit with the kids, but I loved the message and the positive children role models.Sophie and her friend Hattie have some reservations about the new student at school (a snake) but learn to make friends with him, in this very charming, gentle, positive, easy to read, beginning chapter book. Some of the other modern beginner chapter books have been disappointing in their characters and messages. Thank you for writing books that let our children be children. My children both asked me to order the next book in the series, so off I go . . . My only regret is that I didn't know it was a book about the first day of school; would have made a great choice for my annual back to school book gift for my daughter. Now I have to find another one. This series is definitely going into our gift repertoire for birthdays.

Something sunshine-y and friendly for blossoming young readers...
C.S. Lewis once declared that he loved reading books about "animals in clothes" when he was a little boy, and I can happily say that I relate to that statement - and now, my seven year-old daughter does, too. "Sophie Mouse" is very a sweet series with the most adorably illustrated animal friends. Sophie, her friend, Hattie (a frog) and their new classmate, Owen (a snake) are a fun little trio - and this story is a great way to kick-off the introduction to their happy world. The author and illustrator collaborated to write something smart and funny - the vocabulary words hidden throughout were a delight to this English-major mama's ears - while also maintaining an innocence that is so often lost in books aimed at this age range. If you're looking for snark and sassiness, akin to something like "Junie B. Jones," this series isn't it. But if you're like me - hoping that somewhere there are still writers who care about making the world a bit more sunshine-y and friendly for young readers out there - then these books will hit the spot. Thank you, Ms. Green, for creating Silverlake Forest and its cheery world of woodland inhabitants. A+!

Good introduction of chapter books for adult read bedtime stories to little ones.
I'm reading chapter books to my three year old (almost 4) to break the monotony of the same one shot stories over and over. I've found that second grade level books are a good place to look because they are more sophisticated plots than the level 1 books, which focus on basic words for new readers, but not so adavanced that my daughter can't follow them. The good choices will have plenty of opportunities for us to stop and define words, or talk about the story, but won't go right over her head or have difficult concepts to grasp. This series is my favorite. The writing is strong, the characters are sweet and nice to each other, and there are lots of vocabulary expanding opportunities without slowing down the story to a crawl. I like them all so far, and this first one is excellent.I am looking forward to a time when she can read these herself as well.

Cute story
This is a sweet little early chapter book. Lots of pictures for emerging readers. It looks super girly but my son likes the Sophoe books and they are pretty gender neutral.

5 year old loves it
My 5 year old has been watching her big sister start reading chapter books, and she has been dying to read a chapter book of her own. She is able to read most of this, and also able to follow the sweet, simple story line. She absolutely loves Sophie Mouse--we will definitely be getting the next one in the series.

Perfect find for just wanting to start chapters
I was looking for something that would inspire my beginning of 1st grader to strive toward big girl chapter books. This was the perfect series. I have looked and looked for other chapter books at this level, but most are 2nd grade level. I am a beginner at leveled reading, but I would say these are a K or L. Seems like most other chapter series are M and above. Also, the author keeps it cute and sweet so that your 5 or 6 year old is not reading about sassy siblings (Ivy & Bean) or sassy behavior toward teachers (Junie B Jones). We have to keep them sweet as long as possible, right?! My daughter is now on the 3rd book of the series and is still interested.

Owen, Hattie, and Sophie all become friends!
Review by G., 5.5 years old: I loved this book because I loved the names Hattie, Owen, and Sophie. I think Owen is a great name. I sometimes pretend to be him -- snakes are my favorite animal, and Owen is a snake, so I love him. This book made me feel very happy and extremely ready to have a new friend.

Great story
All the Sophie Adventure books are great! My 3 and 5 year olds love when I read them and want me to read them again and again. The story is sweet, easy to follow and good discussions to have with my kids after. The pictures are also really well done.
