Versatility and clarity that knows no genre bounds
Compression effects are more commonly heard in country, blues and other similar styles of playing, giving clear definition to notes as well as contributing to the twang and click sounds those genres heavily incorporate. While my style of playing is significantly heavier this pedal still does a lot of work on my rig. With distortion this guy can be used to help mold and even out your tone, allowing for chunky lows and defined leads. I particularly love this MXR model (and all Dunlop affiliated pedals I own) because of the extremely sturdy metal body. While I wouldn't go out of my way to abuse this thing, it's definitely solid enough to survive the constant stress test that is gigging.Regardless of the genre you play I'd highly recommend trying one of these on your pedalboard. Solid build, flexible tones and quite affordable for such a good bit of equipment.

Best Comp/Sust/Boost for the price range... Period! A legend!
This comp pedal is more than just that. It's an awesome compressor, a killer sustainer and a very useful clean boost. Just sparkles my tone. Don't just think of it as a country pedal. It is much more than that. Compared to the Script Dyna Comp, this one is brighter and that's warmer. Personal preference. But considering that one is double the price, this is a no brainer. If I had more money I would get a four knob Keeley Compressor. But, I dont have as much requirement for a compressor and this one does the job well.People complaining about noise issues have a noisy guitar/effects chain. The problem is not this pedal. It is common sense. A compressor picks up frequencies. If your rig is already noisy, it will enhance or bring up the noise signal too. Common sense. So no worries here. Great little sound enhancer. Gilmour and thousands of more guitar gods have used one.

Great sound in a solid box
This pedal provides the attack I've been missing in my setup. It doesn't produce sexy effects, like a wah or flanger - as it wasn't inteded to do so. It provides depth in my tone and more punch than I had before. All this without altering the original sound coming from my guitar. It also levels out the noise level to eliminate akward level changes when playing. And it also adds some sustain. It added some noise (louder hiss) to my setup, but not too bad compared to the noise I've had already (i've read the hiss depends on your power setup/chain). I keep both knobs at the 1 o'clock positions. This pedal did exactly what I wanted it to do. I'm playing with more confidence. This should've been my first pedal. (I play a Fender Strat and play for hobby).

GREAT (SCROLL DOWN TO SEE MY REVIEW IF YOU UNDERSTAND HOW COMPRESSORS WORK)
IF YOU KNOW ALL ABOUT COMPRESSORS, SCROLL DOWN TO THE END. If not, give this a read! You wont regret it!A compressor literally "compresses" your sound. It raises the volume and punch of your softer sounds, and brings down your louder sounds. All depending on how you set your pedal. The more compressed, the less dynamic capability of your rig. However, it allows you to focus on playing and crashing chords knowing you will play at a consistent dynamic and presence.I play on a Gibson Les Paul with Burst Bucker pickups. My friend plays on a Fender Strat with single coils of some sort (whatever the name of the stockers are. I dont own a fender!). He owns this pedal. As do I. He has a great sound that makes a clear and positive improvement on his clean signal. Mine does not affect the sound of my guitar as much, but nevertheless, makes my clean punchier and more desirable for a funky clean rhythm per say. I have to keep my output all the way up and my sensitivity between completely off and 9 o'clock to avoid buzz to see a difference. It depends on my surroundings (lights, other amps, ect). All compressors should have a better affect on single coils opposed to hum buckers. As with all compressors, if you have a buzzy rig, try to clean it up with better cables, a noise suppressor/ noise gate, if you have a daisy chain you may wish to isolate your noisier pedals from your non-problematic pedals, OR you may need to have your guitar or amp serviced if they're nice enough not to buzz (not being a jerk!!). I say all of this because this guy will make your buzz worse, as with all compressors. If buzz is not a problem, regardless of what guitar you have, it makes your rig all the more versatile. Keep it set up for your single coil guitars, and keep it off for your hum bucker equipped guitars. And if you play through a tube amp you will definitely see a bigger difference than a solid state if you have never experienced one before. As long winded as this review is, if you know all about compressors and what you use them for and just want a simple review, its awesome. Inexpensive for a quality compressor that is both sturdy and great sounding. Much love for the dyna comp!

Great Compression!
All you really need to know is it does its job. It adds a great compressed sound to your instrument -- just about as much as you'd like. Has a click, but that adds character.Personally, I use it as a clean boost, and that can create noise in the loop. You just have to dabble here and there to find the right settings.Pros:- Great for the priceCons:It's a great pedal. I recommend it for live settings.

Best there is
To me a compressor is the most basic and essential pedal to have. If I was on an island and had a guitar and amp and had to choose only one pedal this would be it.I have played though several boutique compressors and they are all very good, but this one really shines to me. I am a chicken picker and I really attack my strings hard. With the style I play you can really hear the compression take over the notes and generally "over suck" and "drop the volume" to quick. This dyna is so smooth and the attack is perfect. For anyone looking to add compression to their pedal board, or get a better compressor, go ahead and get this one. Don't get me wrong a Keeley is a great compressor, but I would choose a dyna over a keeley any day.

Great!
This is excellent as a booster and when I’m playing heavy lead solos this does so much for the sustain. I play it through a fender blues Deluxe and most of the time I actually just leave it on subtly because I like what it does to the tone

Fundamental
