I too had this question, as I recently found that the two existing V2262-50 foam dampers in our house had both completely disintegrated. During my search for a replacement, I learned that the sound rating for exhaust fans is measured in "sones", a scale similar to decibels. The V2262-50 is rated for 2.33 sones, per the product listing of a non-Amazon vendor. Using the Sones-to-Decibels conversion chart linked below, this translates to approximately 40 decibels, the equivalent of somewhere between a whisper and soft music:

Bear in mind that the sound of a given fan will also be affected by the diameter of the exhaust ducting, the number of elbows in the run, and overall run length prior to the termination point. These three factors all contribute to resistance which the fan has to overcome to exhaust the air in the given room. Higher resistance = greater noise levels. Both of the bathroom exhaust duct runs in my house are comprised of 7" diameter rigid metal over straight vertical runs totaling less than 3' in length each. Based on my own experience with my two V2262-50's with this ducting configuration, the above estimation between a whisper and soft music checks out.

Note that Ventline's V2262 series is available with interchangeable motors rated for 50, 75, 90, and 100 CFM, which are all compatible with the same fan housing and assembly. For sake of contrast, the V2262-100 is rated for 6.082 sones compared to the 2.33 sones of the V2262-50. I've been unable to track down specific sones ratings for the 75 & 90 CFM motors as of yet. By way of comparison, Broan makes Energy Star-certified fans such as the Broan XB50 (50 CFM) which are rated as low as .3 sones. But you'll pay for the quiet operation - the XB50 checks in at roughly 3x the price of the Ventline V2262-50 here on Amazon.

Is there a way to shut the vent to save on heating costs when not in use?

Inside the tube with the fan on the upward Flow side there is a flap baffle inside the tube that closes when the fan is not in use

When searching for replacements, I found that the foam damper assemblies are available at Walmart.com for just $5.99 (w/free shipping) from a vendor called Mobile Home Solutions. I'll likely be purchasing replacements there, as they are significantly cheaper than the entire fan assembly itself.
