Wildlife of Australia (Princeton Pocket Guides, 10)

Handy Guide for Travelers
This was a very useful book during our recent trip to Australia. One great feature is that it includes mammals as well as birds and reptiles. There are many unusual birds and critters in Australia and this was very convenient to drop in the backpack. Only complaint is that the birds aren't organized. We basically had to flip through until we found a photo that matched.

We travel to Australia later in the year but it looks comparable to the Wildlife of East Africa which was very useful when we we
I ordered this book many, many months ago and we have finally returned from our trip to Australia. There is a problem with the book however since the pages noted in the Index are incorrect for all of the photo plates. It is very annoying and makes looking for the birds very inconvenient. It appears to be a production error or bad editing! This is what I wrote earlier...I have not used the book yet. We travel to Australia later in the year but it looks comparable to the Wildlife of East Africa which was very useful when we were in Tanzania. The organization and layouts looks very similar.

Lots of info. Small font size.
Usually field guides or pocket guides distill the info down. While the info here is really good..the font size is really small. Also some habitat zones are missing from the map but are included in the content. My suggestion is to reissue the book in a 5”x7” format.

Beautiful book.
Bought for grandson before Australia trip. Have not seen, but his mother says it’s a beautiful book. Came promptly.

A must have for the visitor to Australia
Easy take-along size fits nicely into pocket or bag.Not just what is possible to spot in the wild, but where to look for specific species all together on one page--no flipping back and forth from photo to text.

Great photos, okay text
I got this to prepare for a trip to Australia. The photos are terrific and, with every other page filled with color photos, there are lots of them. But the only text is in blurbs to go with each photo; tiny print and not very detailed. I was hoping for a book with actual text about the different types of wildlife, their habits, how to detect their presence, etc. and this is not that book.

Not the best photos
The breadth of animals and birds covered in this book is great. Many of the photos are blurry or too far away to really get a look at the animal.

Not really a true field guide, but has a lot of information
I was somewhat disappointed by the organization of this book - I thought it would be a field guide for helping identify the most common species in Australia, but it does not have ranges and does not list which species are likely to be encountered in which habitats. The pictures are pretty but not very useful for identification purposes.

Not a serious guide
I'm not a fan of wildlife photo guides in general, but, in the absence of anything else on Amazon about Australian wildlife, decided to give this a go. Big mistake. Some of the photos are truly dreadful, for instance the emu and cassowary, and the platypus photo is just a joke. Some of the bird photos are good, but since three-quarters of the book is birds, you'd be much better off buying a dedicated bird guide with decent pictures, and just taking your chances with the other wildlife. I returned my copy for a refund (promptly processed by Amazon - thank you).

Not a proper kindle version
It is so disappointing when kindle versions are NOT actually kindle books. I realise this is a book with a lot of pictures and more a reference book but I often like to actually read the text on my paperwhite, make notes etc., then refer to the actual hardcopy book for the pictures. I have done this on many previous reference books. However, this version won't download to an actual kindle device! How then can it be called a kindle book! It can only be used on a tablet or phone or admittedly, the kindle fire. Not even the expensive kindle oasis would get it.Print replicas or pdf versions of books should not be sold as kindle books.I realise this review is not about the content but I believe the authors of the book could have made the decision to make it a full kindle version and therefore the review is justified about the book.I returned and got full refund.

Disappointing!
I received this quickly and in good condition. But I found this book very disappointing. Quite a few animals missing so it is of limited use. What animals are there are well photographed but descriptions be a lot better.

Useful guide
Took this on holiday to Australia and was useful, but not as good as the South Africa guide. Would still recommend

Great guide.
Great guide covering all wildlife which is mainly birds. No need to carry separate bird book when you have this one.
