Thule GateMate Pro Full Size , Black, Small

I bought this gate mat for my dad, and he loves it! He’s an avid biker and was always worried about scratching his truck or bikes during transport. This mat was the perfect solution. It’s sturdy, well-padded, and super easy to install. The straps keep the bikes secure, and it fits his truck perfectly. He’s used it a few times already and keeps raving about how much easier it makes his trips. Definitely a great gift for anyone who loves biking!

I looked at several different tailgate pads and I chose this one because it appeared to be durable, a thick pad for my bike, the pad fits good on my Tundra Crew Cab, allows me to use my back up camera, the form fitting bumps on the pad are big and thick enough to prevent my bike from sliding back and forth (the straps helps too), has a soft material underneath the pad to prevent scratching of my truck paint, to be able to carry 4 bikes with no problem, (5 seems like a tight fit) and the setup of the pad allows me to weave a small chain at the bottom of the pad to slow down a would be thief of the pad.I bought the chains, padlocks and blue hose covering for the chain at my local hardware store.The only thing that makes this pad a little difficult is the pad installation:1. Remembering to wipe off the tailgate paint (to prevent dirt from becoming a sandpaper between the paint and the pad).2. The feeding of the straps underneath the tailgate takes a little time but it only takes a little time.Three other thing I noticed is:1. The rails for my Truxedo come up tight against the pad “bumps” but you just adjust the pad slightly to avoid the bumps and rails rubbing on each other.2. The bike strap is long, so smaller tubes on bikes need the strap wrapped twice around it.3. An observation: to protect bike paint, where the bottom of the bike tube paint rests on the pad a protective clear strip should be applied to the bike so it doesn’t rub paint off.Overall it’s a good investment for durability and allows me to secure the pad while I leave it at the trailhead parking lot.

This fits full sized trucks. The installation was simple and painless.However after two uses I observed savage to the padding which was unexpected due the roads I took were all paved.I expected more from THULE.

I got the Thule Gatemate Pro Full Size for a full size 1500 Chevy truck. This is a nice full size tailgate bike rack that can easily fit my 4 family bikes. The rack holds the bikes secure and I have no worries driving on the freeway. It has 8 straps for bikes but unlikely you could get that many on it… 5 maybe 6 bikes would probably be max. The material seems heavy duty so I think this will last a while. I keep it on my truck all summer so we could easily take off for a bike ride at a moments notice. I have used it one season now and it has weathered well so far. It has mesh pockets on the back side that seem sort of useless but they are there if you want them.The only negative is that this tends to slip down the front of the tailgate over time. To prevent this I used a strap to tie it directly to the bed of the truck in the back. Overall, I'm very happy with Thule's rack. I have recommended this to my other bike enthusiast with trucks.. After contacting Amazon about the discrepancy, they said there was no guarantee that if I return it I would get the beefier version of this product featured on their website (and on the tag! and on the manual!. After contacting Thule and waiting almost a month for a straight answer, this was the response from Steven Lenhard: "The site and the manual use a render that looked beefier. The one you received though is the final shipping product. This is correct to what you ordered. I know the render looks different, but for every tailgate and such we have to have more flex than the image." Not sure what exactly that means, but now that my return window has ended, we will give it a try....

Fits my full size 2019 GMC tailgate well and was easy to install.Functions great for (4) mountain bikes. Note that while it has slots for more I'd think it would be a tight fit but that goes for all the different brands. Overall this is a great product.

I thought this would be better than transitional bike rack but is limited. My eBIKE is heavy and difficult to lift over tailgate. My wife’s eBIKE much lighter and easy to lift over tailgate. Same with my non eBIKE. If you have a heavy fat tire eBIKE I would not recommend.

We bought this mat for my husband’s 2019 GMC Sierra. It fits his tailgate and works well with our 5 bikes. We picked this mat because it appeared more rugged and the hard plastic on top offered more protection.
