Do you need a license on shortwave car radios

One person below claimed this is a "CB Radio".
That claim is not accurate.

This radio, unmodified, operates in the 10 meter and 12 meter bands, which requires a General Class, amateur license to fully operate.  It is a genuine "Ameteur Radio", not a CB.
CB, ie Citizen's Band, is the 11 meter channelized band, does not require a license to operate, and is limited to 20 watts.

This radio exceeds output limitations for Citizen's band, and is not legal to operate on 11 meter (CB) even if you are licensed!

One can modify this radio to also operate in the 11 meter frequencies, but this would violate the FCC's type-classification for which this radio is certified.  In other words, it would be illegal, and could result in a rather hefty fine.  Licensed Hams should take note:  having an amateur license does not confer any additional privileges on the Citizen's Band.

Your best bet is to just get your ham license.  Reasonably intelligent people can use the free study guides for 2-3 weeks, and get their General license for about $15-$30 (and it's good for 10 years).

If you don't have the inclination to do that, just get a CB.

I just got mine.  It covers all of 12 meter amateur radio band and all of 10 meter amateur radio band.  I found no OFCOM CB channels in it.  It has a great receive for 12 and 10 meters.  I would not mind hearing 11meter CB from it.  But it probably would not transmit on the 11 meter CB band.  Besides, I have a very old CB in my Jeep and I rarely hear anybody.  If there is a reprogramming you can do to bring 11 meters receive to the radio, I do not think it is worth it.  It does have a data port.  Perhaps that is the answer.

Yes just add the 1kw ohm resistor there is a place marked on the board right behind the volume knob just solder it in .. then you put both bottom and top covers on and go into your menu go to Cb not cd to program the radio to find 11 meters go to YouTube and that guy will walk you threw the promps it’s easy to do installing the resistor and going to the menu promps takes about 15 to 20 minutes to do the whole procedure

What are the Tx frequencies? I just got my general and would hate to get a radio that could only Tx on a portion of my 10-meter priviledges.

It covers the 10 and 12 meter bands only. It could be modified to include the 11 meter band, but that would void the warranty. If you buy the President Lincoln, be sure to buy a President antenna at the same time to get the extra warranty (total 5 years).
I returned this transceiver before actually using it, based on the testimony of other on the Internet that the CW abilities left much to be desired. Instead, I took advantage of the current discounting on an iCon IC-7300. This will be my first Amateur radio. There is extensive coverage on YouTube. Search IC-7300 A to Z #1 . The IC-7300 can be bought from gigi for $1099, and then mail in a rebate to iCon for another $100, bringing it to $999. I hope this response doesn't get deleted. For the money, the President Lincoln is priced right. Just understand the limitations.
