The little headset that could.
Note: Originally, I did buy these used to save a few bucks. After discovering a break, I ordered a new pair and had significantly better results. If you use EQ, these even rival the 200-dollar kinds. Sony ZX-110s are known to be used by casual listeners to enjoy the support of EQ software. I've even seen people wear them while doing live covers. When professionals wear something, it's best to find out why and trust them on it. That's why I took a gamble and bought these.[When I bought used]I really really really wanted to like these. The cups were comfier than the standard zx110s, but the audio didn't come close to the standard. I compared the zx110nc to the standard zx110 I already owned and found it's volume and sound to be significantly less. While this did improve when I flicked on the "noise cancelling" switch, I noticed vocals were clearer and the sound was louder. I live alone, noise canceling had nothing to do with this performance. I tried to test it out with the tv on but could still hear the television. It seems the noise canceling can at most damper the noise of an electric heater. Nothing higher. You'd have to turn up your volume to the high twenties and even thirties to block out a person's conversation. For some reason, the pair I had had cracked speakers. Meaning the black plastic that covers the actual speaker was slightly cracked form a weak foundation. Not sure how this happened during manufacturing, most likely someone but manual blunt pressure and "popped" a crack into it.Sadly, the audio is great with the so-called "noise canceling" on, but not enough to support the idea of changing a battery every ten days if you listen for eight hours per day.I'll maybe buy it again to see if I just had a lemon. But there's a lot of reviews with the issues I had.I did buy new, and had a significant change of mind! I didn't realize how much two little cracks on the earpad covers could change so much![Second Attempt, bought new]Upon arrival, I was greeted to the firmness of the pads that help with my stemming and adhd symptoms. The sound was a lot better but slightly airy. That's when my mom pointed out, I needed to tighten the band. That's when the real results came, and even the noise canceling was a success. I didn't hear anything, not even the cars outside. I live near the airport, and I didn't hear the planes or the helicopters helicopters. I even didn't hear the TV that I forgot to turn off.If the sound is still not to your satisfaction. I highly HIGHLY suggest you use EQ. It's FREE. Honestly, the headsets don't even need them, just make sure the headband is NOT loose!

Awesome headphones for a great price!
I've been using these headphones for a couple of years now and I absolutely love them...I recently had to buy a second pair because the wire was starting to expose on my first pair, but other than that (which I think can be partly blamed on my dog getting tangled up in the cord when she tried to get into my lap while I was wearing them) I haven't had any issues at all. They're comfortable to wear for extended periods of time and do a great job of blocking out background noise.

Great at Noise Cancellation, Mid-Range Frequency Response
The headphones are fantastic for noise cancellation and even without the noise cancellation turned on, they are effective in reducing exterior sounds coming in. The caveat: the frequency response and the way the sound seems panned between the left and right channels. I gave it a couple of days for break in period, and I found that the headphones created a listening experience that made the audio concentrated in the center rather than being dynamically panned in either direction. The frequency response made sounds a bit more mid-range and I didn't hear dynamic bass or treble like my MDRXB-400s. I'm going to have them around as a backup pair since they didn't cost too much, but I plan on finding replacement pads for my MDRXB-400s, I prefer the audio on them, it's much more dynamic with bass and treble and the sound feels full and lush. Something I had hoped for with these headphones, but they didn't quite fit what I'm used to.

Good product with an affordable price and noise cancellation is a must!
If you are looking for a good headphones, decent sound, and the fantastic feature of noise suppressor under $50 this is the product for you. Feeling of cable and headphones looks cheap but for that price is pretty normal, however the sound quality is good if music and sound is not your main job, but for everyday use is really good, and when you turn the noise suppressor on (on right side of the headphones) the difference of sound and noise is pretty impressive.

Excellent sound quality
I owned, and was reasonably happy with, the previous version of the model from Sony. I didn't realize what I was missing until I purchased this newer version.I use these headphones to watch TV late at night while others are sleeping. The old version sound quality was reduced when the noise cancelling option was turned off. That's not the case in this version. The sound quality is great with the noise cancelling feature turned off.Only minor complaint is the headphones sit a little tight on my head, causing a small measure of discomfort when in use for many hours. I am happy with the purchase otherwise.

Just Okay
I purchased these for a long flight, but I found them cumbersome to take along. I also did not find them very comfortable to wear. The noise cancelling effect was a 30% reduction at best.

Uncomfortable and Poor Noise Cancellation
I bought this for use on flights. I needed a wired connection to use for on-board entertainment, and also cancel out background noise. Unfortunately, these headphones don't cut it.Cons:- Uncomfortable. It seemed initially okay, but after wearing them for 4 hours, the skin on my ears and the top of my head hurt.- Poor Noise Cancellation. I could barely tell if this feature was on. It does NOT cancel out low-drone airplane noise.Pros:- The price. Very Reasonable, but don't expect much from it.- The brand. Who hasn't heard of Sony?
