A replacement belt is cheaper than a necktie
I've used this thing for 10 years, maybe longer. My belt eventually needed to be replaced, which is not a big deal since they are easy to replace. My initial annoyance was having to replace the batteries every year or so; but I eventually took the light out which was unnecessary for me, since the light uses a lot more power than the motor and stays on after you turn it off. So the batteries now last me about 3 years.About six months ago, the belt started coming off, though it still has not broken. Maybe they switched to a poorer belt more recently because other reviews talk about belt failure happening within the first year or so. I came to this site because I was searching for belt solutions. Oddly most people seem to have given up, as if one can not replace the belt easily.I took my belt off and its length is 5-1/4" and it is about 7/64" wide and about as thick as a dime. I assume that the original length was probably 10% shorter. There are several internet sites that sell replacement belts. One belt option appears to be FRX 4.7 which is 4.7" long and 0.11" wide, and 0.35" thick, used to drive electronics. That option is offered regularly on ebay etc. for about $15. But I bought the FBS4.7 from Ken's Electronics in Kalamazoo for $6.00 + shipping and it has worked so far. At $6 maybe I should have bought more than one.For all I know, tie racks made in different years have different belt lengths, so if you buy one of these now you probably should take the belt off before you even mount the rack, and take the required measurements so you can either order the replacement now, or at least be able to order a replacement without having to take all your ties off the rack and then wait 2 weeks for a belt to arrive. The places that sell small drive belts have all different sizes so don't worry about finding a belt if you are halfway resourceful.

Piece O' Crap
If you don't know what this thing's design and manufacturing flaw is by now...At least the other reviews had their rack for at least a yaar. I had mine for 6 months before the belt broke.

Weak Belt
I have had two of these tie racks...the first lasted for 2 years, the second for 8 months. The design is great and it holds lots of ties, but the same part, the belt (which holds the ties and rotates) has broken on both of the racks I bought with no obstruction or other apparent cause.

9 year service. Very happy with it
Okay so the plastic belt where the hooks are is ecerybody's problem. Well, truth is I've used this for 9 years. Yes the belt broke in year 5 but, hey, no problem here: just use it as a motionless rack! That's what I've been doing until today when the whole belt just went loose and all the ties fell off. 9 years for a gadget that back then cost me 40 $ is A LOT of time and a good purchase. 4 stars for me.

great until it breaks
We bought this in the Sharper Image store. It was great for about 2 years, but then one day the belt that holds the hooks just cracked off. Ours was nowhere near capacity. It had probably never had more than 40 ties on it. We had them evenly spaced, so I know it wasn't because of uneven weight distribution. Don't know why it broke, but it was sure convenient while it lasted. Considering how much pricier it is than its competition, I would have liked so have seen it last quite a few more years.

Useless rack
I never knew that a tie rack would have a shelf life but this one did. The belt cracked and made this worthless. Too expensive to buy this model again for 1 years of use.
